Flooded in - work from home today - 500mm+ since Friday
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:24:30 AM »
We have had a shed load of rain over the last 36 hours or so. Not sure how much exactly as I am on the wrong side of the bridge from the rain gauge.

We had 150 odd mm from late fri arvo until around 3:00 pm yesterday when we left to go over our friends place. I am guessing we have probably had about another 200mm since then.

We had a lot to drink and stayed with friends last night, maybe be staying here tonight also ???

Here is a pic of the bridge about 1km from home before and after

Here is the river flood height data. 6 meters is well over the bridge. 5.5-6 can still be crossed in the Cruza but over 6 meters is too dangerous.

Unfortunately the Mulgrave river just flows out to sea. The river never stops, has enough water to make Rapids all year round but unfortunately all that fresh water just turns to salt. I wish we could send it down to VIC or SA.

Plenty or  here . Even if they run out, they have a bottle O a couple kms down the road.  They are cooking us bacon and egs this morning as wel, as some sort of traditional Dutch blood sausage.
They reckon I will love it, I am not so sure but I will give it a go.

Hi muzza01,

It has not stopped raining on the Tablelands for two days so there is still a lot of water coming your way yet.

Hey Muzza
Me n the mates got stuck up the end of the dirt road beside the Mulgrave river in the 90's for 2 nights.
Ran out of food and beers first night. Went for a BBQ lunch, and to play in the mud. Kind of went wrong for us....
Lesson learnt, check weather forcasts from time to time.   ;D

Yeah it can come up pretty quick. We just got home so back on the right side of the river.
The water is just lapping the bridge still.

Here is a pic from last night.

I am guessing you live on the nth side of it. Is that still the same bridge which has been there for a long time?

Hi Dave, I think you mean south but yes I am (on the road to no where side of the bridge) so when it's flooded we are stuck.  The camera view has only recently been installed on the other side of  the bridge and I live on the side the camera shot is looking at.

The bridge has been there for a very long time but the height was raised in the early 2000's. I will post up another pic shortly

I know where you are, 1 of my regrets, not buying some land up that road when I had the chance.......
I thought the bridge looked a bit different in your pics, then I was thinking it may have been the 1 near the river mouth (by the coast).
Does the pub still exist, further up the valley? Umm, cross the bridge, turn left.

Hi Muz,
Looks like plenty more coming your way.

Well this should clear in a day or two but we may have another Low form up to the north of us. May develop into a tropical Low or even Cat one. Maybe more rain coming by next weekend. Have to wait and see how things develop.

so what work do you do, muzz?  nice to be able to work from home, with the rain sounding on the roof... :)

Actually I am a bit of a weather watcher. I work in Disaster Management  ;D

Biggest mistake I made was not living in Goldsborough Valley. You buggers get all the easy days off work!!!

Friends and cousins live out your way, it's always a risk going to visit them this time of year :)

Cheers,
Matto :)
