Yep the the run down past the Strawberry farm then up around that white church on the hill, A local bloke from here lost his life when he  put his worked Torana into the trees along that section leading up to the church early one morning ..

Yeah, that would be it.... pretty good bends in the road, wouldn't be hard to ice ya self.

We would get a reasonable run down the coast, but 2 hours minimum, bumper to bumper on the trip home.
Radical sunburn, vinyl seats, hungry, thirsty.... those were the days.

Does anyone remember, the old Gold Coast highway from Brisbane.

There was a spot, where, maybe around Pimpama, the old road ran up a hill and as the road swung around a left hand bend, a small church was perched on the high side with a cemetery behind it.

Once past there, the road swung right and back down the hill.

I've looked at google maps to try and decipher where the old road went, but its hard now after all these years.
I still remember, when the highway went through Beenleigh, as we would stop and get a loaf of bread at the bakery on the left.

I still remember, those great days at Burleigh Heads.
The old grey FE Holden Mum and Dad had, no air cond, no seat belts, not a lot of power out of the old sideplate motor, questionable handling and brakes, but Shit,it was a good ol jigger.

I was going through this yesterday, which got me thinking.....

you talking about the spot that had the war digger statue out the front of it?....mates and myself used to always salute the digger when we drove past there . Same mates bet me I couldn’t get to Jupiters Casino from Logan Hyperdome in under half an hour on that old highway years ago, driving one of those mates Skyline I did it in 29 minutes sitting on 180kph for some stretches...young and dumb back then, lucky we didn’t kill ourselves or anyone else.

I tell ya what Fizzie, I would have bet money, the church was on the other side of the M1 these days.
It would appear, I don't know everything after all..... who would've thunk it.

So many memories of the gold coast, the highway, the trouble we got into and out of.....  ;D

In the last 6 months, I've been up and down the M1 a few times now and I hate it.
Half the friggin time, i don't even know where I am in relation to the old days.

When the M1 was being built, we were heading down in our 63 Pontiac sled for the James Dean Memorial Cruise.
Some poor bastard in a big kick arse Caddy hearse was driving it for the first time.
Stuck in the r/h lane and LHD, he had no idea where the car ended and the temporary concrete block wall started.

Anyone remember the Sugar Shack at Fingal in the 90's?
It was the old picture theater turned into the coolest "Sugar Shack"
Run by Baron Von Weirdo. (we still have one of his paintings on the wall)

Yeah JC,
I also remember that spot on the right as you headed south.
I don't travel that road all that often now days but I think I recall you can still see the church in the distance when you travel south on the current M.
Travelling in the parents' old (new then) EK Holden.
Not much help but that's all I've got 😩

Anyone know about this thing - didnt get a photo as it was driving by, but i'm gonna keep an eye out for it around Carrum Downs area...

It was a Yota troopy, with what looked like a extra section in the body to lift the windows/roof up, and it also had a steepish short bonnet on it like the cab had been modded too... front almost looked like an FL80 Freightliner style.

as I said didnt get a great look, but it stood out like elephant balls on a flea.

If it is the one I think you are talking about, from memory somewhere I read it was specially modified for a wheelchair driver

Does anyone remember the head-on section?...

Streams of cars coming from opposite directions would enter the 1km stretch gaining extra speed - as the head on section was in a natural gully..

Everything from trucks to battered bombs and no doubt a good dose of drunk drivers would be coming at ya on the opposite duel carriageway - which merged butting up to your 2 lanes traveling in the opposite direction;  (the stretch forming a 4 lane strip of HW)..  No safety barriers or medium strip - noth'n...

Just 1.5mtrs of speration between you and death at a combined potential impact speed of about 200-240km/hr  ...(for those times when 2 sets of drivers coming at opposite directions were a few K over the speed limit...

Sorta as pointless and pathetic as the Ranger ad with teh swinging balls attached to a subframe...

Hahaha... the music is from a group called "A Tribe Called Red" a Native Canadian group. I don't mind it, but have no idea why the colorado ad is using it. First heard it on the series "Chance" on SBS. This freaked out psycho bloke used to listen to it to get psyched up, before he went out to mete out a bit of damage on people.

Why not just use a pencil    ???

Didn't want sharpener shavings and little bits of lead floating around in zero gravity.
