Things are looking up as far as convincing wifey that we should get a camper trailer. At least now she is keen to go to the Newcastle caravan and camping show and have a look. Most likely a hard floor and most likely expensive with lots of fruit. Not that I won't enjoy the benefits. In the meantime I need to work out how best to store one when we get it. And this is where I need some help.

This is where I think it would be best to store. It's secure and off the street. Basically the space is 3.24 wide which should be wide enough. The drop is approx 400 with 5 metres width in the back lane from my gate to the other side of the lane. My thought is to build a platform for the camper to sit on that is level with the back gates shown in the pic. The building of it is no problem I just don't have much idea as to the sizes of materials needed and spacings between piers to support said trailer. Is there a builder or engineer out there who can give some assistance?
I guess I should also ask if others think that getting a trailer into such a space is doable? I have made a scale model to test my theory. My thoughts are that it would not be too difficult but I'm often wrong (apparently). The aircon unit would be repositioned around the corner.

Come out 600 or so off the house, put in another retaining wall, with drainage etc and fill it all and put slab down, that way trailer could be moved easy??

Looking at the pic, I would remove the retaining wall in front of the gate, build a new little ret wall alongside the A/C upto the gate and dump some blue metal in to form a ramp.

plenty of room i reckon and X2 on what Ollie has said....pine sleepers are cheapish, fill the new hole you make and pour a concrete slab on top or even gravel if the budget doesn't stretch that far which will mean zero future maitenence. You've already got the old walls you can batten screw some uprights to and hold those ends of the sleepers in place with, a few more posts in the ground and some sleepers to retain the dirt / gravel and the job is half done.

Cheaper alternative and almost as good ...frame it up with cheap pine sleepers with well driven in star pickets to screw them to then wet and compact something like lily dale toppings down.looks good and far cheaper than concreþe

Thanks for the replies. What has been said makes sense. For some reason I hadn't considered a wall with fill and a concrete top.

Snapman. I would have liked to have put a ramp in but I don't have the room on the other side of the gate to position a vehicle so that I can pull a trailer up the ramp. That is why I want to keep it flat. Thanks though for your imput.

Dale133. Can you give me a bit more detail on your suggestion. I understand the first bit but am at a loss to the bit about "wet and compact....." I think I'm missing something. Possibly some brain cells.

Recycle the gate sleepers as they are on site already . They can create the rolling surface to slip your CT in to . Having said that if you need to open it to dry/pack or service will it foul on the roofline . Opening draws will be almost impossible in the chute . Can you take it home to Mother & poke it in the garage in the dry , justa thought  :cheers: :cheers:

If you don't have to pack trailer in that spot you could consider building level ramp to store the trailer and to climb under to fix and clean stuff under the trailer ,car etc. The kyak can even live under the camper.

Thanks again to those who found the time to give an input about this. A hard floor will flip backwards and shouldn't catch on the house. Agree about the difficulties packing and access to side drawers but if going away then I'd put it in the shed next to it and do preparations there.

Next question will be after I have rebuilt the retaining wall and about to do the slab and drainage but that can wait until we make further plans.
