Camper trailer - heart or head decision
« on: January 24, 2015, 10:01:14 AM »
I am looking for a new camper trailer and I'm down to 2. One is a heart decision ('feels' right, looks good, has main bits, costs more etc), one is a head decision (right cost, has all right bits, but doesn't 'feel as good, or 'look' as good).

What did you all go with for your purchase....the heart or the head   ??? ???

This may be the only time but I am going to go with what he said haha.

But really if you can afford the spend a bit more then get the one that you love is this the one you are looking to have for many years if you get the other one you will always notice the things you didn't like about it.

D4D,
not sure if I agree.
To get down to 2, I suggest that they have already met your main requirements (cost, main tech specs, overall looks etc). Unless they are the same camper, they will have slight differences. And its these differences that then end up swaying the decision one way or the other (finish, overall look/bling, better brand techo stuff, slightly bigger storage etc)

My 3 camper purchases have always met a set of requirements and been narrowed down to 1 camper. Maybe I started with the camper I wanted and worked the requirements around that :)

we went with the costs more one and havnt looked back, almost bought a few before this our 1st camper, and glad i waited and found the one i wanted and am stoked to have even if it was bit more than our initial budget, but can you put a price on knowing its what you want or something nearly there. if the budget doesnt work out you should at least get your money back and downsize. that being said as long as its not major overspend should be fine but you have to be able to sleep at night knowing its only something your going to use every other wknd as well.

There's really only one question.
Could you live with the regret of saving some coin if your unhappy with your purchase ?

Mrs Smith,
its not just the coin.
Coin - both within budget but the heart one is more expensive enough to make you think.
The Head one will fit in the shed, the Heart one won't. Will need some type of external coverage.
The head one weighs less (Tare and towball) than the heart one. But both can be lived with.
The head one has a more efficient 12v usage setup for hot water/heater.
The head one has an easier to lift top. But both useable.

The heart one has a nicer finish, look,  and nicer finished drawers, nicer kitchen layout, internal layout, nicer pantry etc. but both are acceptable.

The more I think and talk about it, and go through my spreadsheet, the more I think the heart is going to win.

Mark, if it's between heart and head and the coin is not a factor, go with the heart. Any camper you purchase needs to be used by you, don't sit back and say you should have. Life's too short.
Sounds like the heart one might be some kind of Crossover thingy.....

The heart seems to have more "keep the missus happy" about it.
Use your head.

Mark the decision is hard but at the end of the day you know what you want , your needs , your comfort , the features etc

If you think the reduction would suit and ticks all the boxes then buy that one. Penny and I will be making that decision at the end of the year when we upgrade and look forward to what you end up getting.

Good luck on your decision and sometimes over scrutinising can make the choice harder.

As others have said you just need to prioritise the + & -.

For me, not fitting in the shed would be a deal breaker, would probably get taken if it was parked in the driveway...

Or just get a bigger shed  :cup:

i went with heart....cost me $5k more but when we use it (especially the kitchen which is where the main difference was) i feel quite warm inside.....very glad i went with that decision, much like buying my 200 series when we were poised to buy a pajero, the spend is long forgotten but the joy still exists....(no offence to pajero owners either)

all my life my parents always bought poverty packs, or seconds or stuff no one else wanted, these always were compromises and often resulted in second purchases from not being happy or sub standard quality, heart has to have some say in the decision!

cheers
2010 TTD Landcruiser, i have added stuff but can't remember what! Slowly gettin quicker at setting up the brumby but breaking camp is another matter....
