The tennis is bad enough....but it's the monotonous voices of the eastern European women that really grates.....

I'm with you Mark. It's a great sport. More fun to be had when playing the sport but even as a spectator it's a good game.

I think it has a lot to do with whether you have played the sport yourself, of have an interest, as you are better able to appreciate the tactics, skill and nuances of what is happening.  I could watch tennis, soccer and F1 all day, but NRL, AFL, V8's and golf is mind numbing to ME.

Don't mind AFL, so long as the volume is turned down and I don't have to listen to the commentators. Went to Etihad Stadium once. Was bored out of my brain. So high up in the stands you could barely see the ball.
I like watching cricket on telly, so long as I've got something else to do as well for the boring bits ie surf MySwag.
Went to the MCG once. 20/20 game. Bangledesh (I think) were bowled out in 5 overs, and Australia scored the required runs in about 5 overs as well. Barely got comfortable after working my way in with 50000 of my closest friends and it was time to fight my way out with them as well.

But the Australian Open?
A great family day out. Costs about $20 odd per person for a grounds pass (you can't get into Rod Laver or Margerate Court, but who cares, I'm not into it enough to work out who is playing there anyway), for the whole day. Although with No. 3 son ball boying for the last 2 years we get a few complimentry tickets anyway.
You wonder in to a court and can sit with in spitting distance of the players.
The enforced quiet whilst play is under way just adds to the tension as the shots go on.
Doesn't really matter who is playing. They are all world class.
If one of the players is not up to the challenge presented by their opposition the game is over real quick and they put another game on for you.
They don't do that at the cricket. ;D
And if you get a bit bored there are heaps of places to laze around and crowd watch. Eye candy galore. Doesn't matter what age or nationality you are in to  8) . The hotter the day the better. Especially if you sit around the fountain where the young lovlies seem to see it as a huge challenge to see how wet they can get before security chase them out of the water.

Tennis is like F1 Overpaid spoilt brats that think thier level of skill absolves them of all facets of human decency.
It's an important event to put a country/ destination on the map for all the big money spending tosser. ..melborne cup and the tennis is up there with the Monaco grand prix.
Does it benift anyone else? Yea to an extent but it's just another corporate sport played by temperamental wanker.
P's my Mrs and her daughter just got back from 2 days there.... I'm not even asking what it cost

I don't mind watching a close match between well mannered players, but I get sick of the repetitive headlines that remain the same for heaps of tournaments over a number of years like :
Samantha Stosur gets knocked out of the (whatever) Open in the first round.
Bernard Tomic loses his temper in the (whatever) Open
Australia loses in the Hopman Cup.
Leyton Hewitt enters his 2 680th Open and was knocked out in the second round.
Robert Allenby gets beat up by a drunk homeless woman.....sorry, wrong sport.

perhaps you should do some reading about the charity work that both tennis and F1 'brats' do without getting/looking for recognition in the media, before writing them all off as 'spoiled brats'.

yes, some of them are arrogant (no different to any other facet of life), but the vast majority aren't.

I disagree, I played tennis, I played rugby league and I was a pretty bloody good shot with a rifle at the big bore rifle shooting ranges,   but I can,t stand tennis on TV, hardly watch any league and that includes the state of origin matches, couldn't be bothered turning the TV on when rifle shooting is shown during the Olympics or Commonwealth games .

But a am an avid watcher of motor sport  especially the Australian V8 supercars.

Don't get me started on Golf, if you hate that white ball that much and need to whack it with a stick, why chase in down the paddock and find the little bugger and whack it again ?

My rant is over, cheers duggie .
