l suppose that watching  two people tormenting a fuzzy bright green ball would come third to a nice walk in the park . Tormenting a smaller dimples white ball , being stalked by a bloke with a bag of earth moving equipment  ,

Ouch boys, Ouch!!!!!
You gotta watch it live to get the real experience of tennis. Im with you,on tv, you lose the feel and emotions of the game and it is boring. BUT court sides another thing.
This is coming from a former pro tennis player and now a High performance tennis coach….so I know both sides of the stick.
Don't write it off, get your backside court side!!!!

I'd rather watch a replay of a drawn test match in black and white @ 4.3.

I went once [years ago - free tickets] and got told to be quiet !!
I lasted 30 minutes.

Sorry, you missed the most important part.
It should be
Grunt Hit Fly
Grunt Hit Fly
Grunt Hit Fly
Grunt  Hit Fly
Grunt Hit Fly
Then wipe all your stinking sweat on a towel and throw it in some ball boys/girls face.
