We are heading to the cape late July and all of aug. How long before we go can I book camping spots in the Queensland national parks.  Eliot falls is the main one I want to spend a few days at. Talking of Eliot falls does anyone have a favorite site number we can try and get.

You can book up to 6 months to the date.  EG : you want to be there on the 06/07 you can book the site from the 06/01 onwards.

Camping at Eliot Falls

Site 22 can handle 2 campers, site 23 can only handle 1 camper. site 29 can handle 3 campers. They would be the pick.

We picked 17 for Elliot falls mainly for close to facilities but far enough away plus there was a tap about 20m away from us. we were there towards the end of August and had 2 other campers in the whole site.

Main thing to watch for is if you are running early it can be difficult to notify the parks we tried had not service and did the detour out to ranger station only to find the gate locked and not going to walk 2k's in the heat to get to the station. Decided to just go and camp and if the ranger came out just see what happens,(never saw him). After talking to some others at canal creek they said don't worry about booking as that time of year is very quiet and the rush is over.

I booked Site 29 the other day as it looked to be the closest to the toilets of the ones left.  i've never been there, so it was pretty random!

Yes close to the toilets, plus the saucepan falls. How many camper have you booked for or just one.

Just one.  I didn't realise you could fit more than one on the sites.

It says how many campers per site can fit but some sites are small and can only fit one. Once you book a site it's yours.

We did the trip last year and had site 22 booked. On the way up via the heathlands ranger station cancelled it cause everyone recommended staying at Canal creek instead.  It was a gem of a place, only us for most of the time right down the end.  Certainly recommended if you have your own facilities.
