Driving QLD regd car in NSW.

My vehicle was purchased 12/12/14. The notice of disposal by previous owners was lodged shortly after.
My vehicle arrived in Sydney 23/12/14 as it came by transporter.

I need to get a blue slip and transfer the regn. It says 14 days on the paperwork for regn transfer, but that has already passed. I obviously can't get a bluie when the vehicle is not in NSW.

The regn runs out Jun2015.

Will I get the regn balance refunded from QLD if I transfer it now.
What if I leave it till Jun2015?

Better to do it sooner, don't wait until the Qld rego runs out.

Police & Councils are starting to get the cameras in cars that check rego as they drive about.

Why don't you just ring the rego dept in NSW

Think you have 3 months to do it.  Don't leave it till near the end because sometimes NSW pull a compliance check and you have to book in and go to a special RMS workshop. Although the inspection is brief (1-2hours) booking can be a wait of 4-5 weeks

If you move permanently interstate you must change your rego to the state you now reside in.  The time frame to do this varies between states so check with the RTA.  I am unsure of the rules if you buy a car from interstate and how long you have to change the rego over but would suspect there would be an obligation to register it fairly quickly in your state of residence.  Maybe that is where the 14 days comes from.

When you return your Qld rego plates to TMR in Qld, you will receive a refund of your unused Qld rego.

If you buy a vehicle that is already registered in NSW you must transfer the rego within 14 days or you have to pay an extra surcharge when you do transfer the rego.
Interstate registered vehicles that are now permanent in NSW, Its in you best interest to transfer ASAP (if you can get a refund of remaining QLD rego - you'll get more) and NSW rego plates will blend in with all the other NSW plates (less likely to get noticed by Mr Plod)
At the end of the day you can stretch it out to 90 days, it's your call.

Not sure what Qld does regarding transfers in their state (will Qld allow you to transfer a vehicle rego into your name as new owner when you reside in another state) In NSW once the previous owner completes and signs a notice of disposal (their signing a legal document) advising that they are no longer in possession of the vehicle, just the same as advising the authorities that someone else was driving the vehicle owned by you was driven by another person (must supply name and details of that person) when it drove through a red light camera) and RMS will have the new owner listed with the vehicles rego and fines will come to you just the same, You just haven't transferred the rego  by paying stamp duty and transfer fees.

90 days applies to companies, not people. Allows a company eg trucking to have trucks dev in one state and operate in NSW.

Not sure about NSW time frames. In Vic you have 3 months to get a licence. There is no time frame for rego. if it is now permanently in Victoria it is no longer EXEMPT from from registration, even if it is registered interstate.

If the seller has already transferred it into your name Qld may suspend the rego if it hasn't been fully transferred such as fees roadworthy etc.

I would get it done now.

From a Qld point of view.

To sell a registered vehicle in Qld it's the law to obtain a Safety Certificate prior to advertising the vehicle for sale (this is your pink/ blue slip/ annual inspection in NSW). If the seller didn't supply you with the safety certificate, it is still registered in their name. I'd do a rego check to ensure it is still indeed registered https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/checkrego/application/TermAndConditions.xhtml?windowId=e0a is the site address. If you return the plates, the money refund will go to them. If they did supply the S.C. then you have 2 months/ 2000km to transfer the registration, and yes NSW accept the Qld S.C. Sorry, i can't help you with the NSW requirements.

OK, spoke to the RTA. I can drive a QLD registered vehicle in NSW for 90 days from date of purchase.
