Need help,I live on the southside of brisbane,we want to put a pool in and with abit of research Im very nervous.Does any one here no or can anyone recommend a pool builder

A few years ago I used Narrellan Pools for the install. They were sensational and their after sales service is A1. Good range of pools too http://narellanpools.com.au/

Was a few years ago too but we used Rogers Pools http://www.rogerspools.com.au/


They were good to deal with as well and was very happy with the after install service. There was a small leak in one of the pipes and they went out of their way to find it.

Tell me about it. We have a pool in the place we rent out. We have a quote to fix the current issues (re paint, new pump and filter). $12,000.

I think we will be filling it in.

We have turned ours into a 72,000 litre pond. Best thing we ever did. Bugger all maintenance and we can still have a swim if we want.

April next year, the Trout will be going in :)

x2 we recently viewed a place for sale that had an indoor and an outdoor pool, I thought WTF are these people mad. Then I saw the sauna in the master ensuite, they must have some interesting keys in the bowl parties ;)

I am the opposite. We just  moved into a house with a pool and the family spend more time outside than ever. Sure they cost a bit to maintain but just the beneficial excercise and non electronic times for the kids and adults is awsome. Its also a great place to entertain family and friends.

Great especially when the kids are young.  The key to a pool is planing and and getting the right gear. We put in a dedicated pressure side cleaner, and in 10yrs have only vacuumed the pool 3-4 times and that was when the cleaner was U/S.   Get salt and ignore all the BS and chemicals the pool franchises try and sell you. Just keep up the salt pending rain 4-6 bags a year ($50) top up the water pending rain ($20?????) and power for the pump. If you have solar panels make sure the pump runs during the day, best to run the pool when there swiming anyway. Good luck.

I would only build with a reputable pool business that has been around for a long time. There are plenty of fly by night ears that use second rate methods to save $$ that end up coating you a lot more in the long run. Don't go with the cheapest quote.

We love the pool, I think they are a great little toy in FNQ as you can use them for most of the year. Running costs for chemicals is very little until we get the torrential rain, then I need to buy salt to top up.

Ours is an economical pump running off 1/2 price electrical tariff 33.  We spend a lot of time 5 days out of 7 in our pool.

they're just an attraction for all the kids in the neighbourhood and all through out summer holidays your not only watching them play but also feeding them and we have sunlight til well after 8.30pm so lunch and dinner for some of them. Decided no pool this summer doing renos out the back yard and we also live across the road from a beach, our kids have become strong swimmers so we send them there now no need to watch them constantly hopefully the renos extend out for the next 11 summers  ;D

Yeh, ours was great when they were young, but it rarely gets used now they have left home..

But for the few times it gets used, it's a lot cheaper to maintain than fill it in........fill, and rehabilitate the back yard....lots of work and maybe $2000 ??..........yearly cost for the pool...roughly $100  plus another $100 for electricity maybe ??

I've been repainting all the driveway and side of the house today, so one of the rare days when it's nice to fall in and cool off !!!

$1500 all up including filters, chlorinator,  bedding sand, chemicals, 2 umbrellas and 4 months of temporary fence hire.
Fence hired as I haven't decided what we are doing with that yet.

That is our Christmas holiday fund. Kids are having an absolute ball. Bugger the big hole in the ground.

Grow up with a pool. Now living in darwin a pool is must for us. If yoy maintain them it easy.
Only thing I would note. Try a have a smooth finish if going a built in ground pool. The rougher or pebble style I found looked better but was harder to keep clean specially if "let go". The mould and grime build up in the tiny grooves becomes a pain.

Have heard good reports on compass pools in chermside. My next door neighbour just put in a Barrier reef built swimming pool havent had a good look at it but hes a fussy sort of bloke so must be ok.

We renovated our 30 year old pool 6 months ago. We are on the south side of Brisbane. We used "Just Add Water". http://justaddwaterpools.com.au/
I have no affiliation with them. Got their name off the internet. They preped the pool well and appeared to have done all the right things. Their price was competitive and the final product looks good. Only time will tell if it will last, but I'm happy with the end result.

Friends of ours swear by fibreglass pools. Faster to install. Cheaper. Smooth under foot. No calcium build ups if the chemicals are not balanced. I am sure there are negative issues that other folk can comment on.  Our friends recently re-landscaped their back yard and replaced the old 20+ year old fibreglass pool that came with the house with another fibreglass one. They say they wouldn't have anything else. I only mention fibreglass as an option. I have no personal experience with them, but other seem to like them.

In my view the stuff that makes a dodgy pool builder dodgy is when he uses cheap subbies or non-qualified staff for all the non-pool parts of the build. This is things like the paving, the electrical, the fencing, the pipe work etc etc

Talk to the builders and ask questions around this stuff to get a feel for whether they use good labour or the cheap labour or do stuff themselves that they shouldn't.

My house had a pool when I moved in. I soon noticed some 3-core 240v White cable not in conduit near the pumps, just laying on the ground. I pointed it out to a sparky one day and he said my whole pool area electrical was obviously done by a builder "he could just tell by looking at it". The sparky fixed it all up but he said this was very common with pools.

And as someone said above don't go the cheapest as they are cheap for a reason.
