We were in Alice Springs (5 nights) and Yulara (2 nights) a couple of weeks ago. We would have stayed longer but OMG it was HOT!! The West Macs were beautiful (we didn't do all the gorges...too hot) and didn't do Kings Canyon or Finke. I reckon you could spend a week in that area and be flat out trying to do everything. We also came into Alice via the East Macs....not as dramatic landscape, but the absolutely stunning nonetheless. In fact, I love that we didn't see anyone else when we came through there but saw some pretty spectacular scenery. We did sunset and sunrise at Uluru, sunset at Kata Tjuta and would love to have done a longer walk through the Olgas, but they close the tracks in the heat and conditions were not conducive for keeping our three kids under five in the reasonably happy and content zone
I did a sunrise Uluru camel trek and LOVED it!! Highly recommended
There's also lots to do around Alice Springs. The kids loved the reptile centre, black-footed and school of the air.I could quite happily spend at least a month exploring The Centre....so much to see and do!
