Bog Out - Has anyone tried one ?

Hello peoples,

This is a new system for self recovery, made in North Queensland.

I reckon it would work in most situations, but I was wondering if anyone has tried it out .

VEHICLE RECOVERY DEVICE

I like the concept, and the fact you could use it to pull you out in any direction..

The principle looks very similar to wheel winches, which is a drum that locks onto extended wheel nuts.
I have also seen on YouTube in Ariabic countries with sand that they tie a snatch strap or winch extension strap to the rim of a spinning wheel and drive out as the wheel runs along the  top of the strap.

I doubt the idea is new, but its always the simple solutions that are the best.

I reckon it would work best with a LSD, and yes the LSD is still around, making the wheels go round and round.

   it could be fun if it slipped off the tyre to the inside of the wheel for a few revolutions.

I was initially very impressed but then got to thinking...

It's good as a back-up but not sure it's a substitute for a winch as claimed in the marketing.

What happens if you are climbing a muddy bank for example and you run out of length of the webbing straps?
You wouldn't be able to even continue to drive without jacking it up a removing once you've got more than a single wrap around. Imaging the funky angles you would need to get the hilift out for then! Great for little hops out of a rut or a hole but I can see it being a PITA if you need to do more than 1 tyre revolution... IMHO!

Notice that the video is edited/cut when removing the strapping. It's certainly not the same recovery that is shown in the video as she has multiple wraps on that.

As DannyG also mentioned... $180 for a "single pack" is that 1 wheel or 2?
If it's only 1 wheel that's $360 for 2 plus $160 for rope. I'd spend my money on a bigjules 12k winch first!

In the products defence, if have not actually seen or used one and the above is only my opinion made from assumed operations!

Really.  Don't think the two are comparable.  Max Trax, TREDS,  Mallee Tracks, etc. are excellent and have saved me a few times.  They have been proven to work by many.

Just because you see them on the roof doesn't mean they don't get used. I always carry mine with me, and they have been extremely valuable a number of times. They don't get used that often, and that's the way I like it.

In regards to this concept, it looks good, except I agree it would be a nightmare trying to remove it and no good for hills unless you had traction again, or the ability to stop rolling backwards

with all due respect, couldn't you say that about a winch, or a jack or a spare tyre?

about the item at hand, i guess for the price, it is another tool to help out if stuck.  worth it for piece of mind...

Same concept as a chain but made out of rope, would probably cut the track up if used with a lot of right boot. Considering how a winch rope really likes being retrieved along rocks and mud, you'd have to question the longevity...

Yeah I agree, so how do you unravel multiple revolutions of rope from the tyre? The horizontal cords don't appear to detach.

As an aside, she is smoking hot! She can get my bog out anytime.
