Anyone know a good place (cost wise ) to purchase Hema7 GPS in Sydney or online.

I bought mine from NRMA online because I got members discount plus had $100 voucher. 

GP OZ do good deals and give you a free raster maps. On the Northern beaches

Just found a place in Cairns called Cairns Charts and Maps sell the Hema 7 $599.
Anyone have any dealings with this Company?

I had every intention of getting the HEMA gizmo till I was chatting with my rellies who own the TJM on the Sunny Coast who told me about the HEMA app.
It's only $35 to buy the HEMA Explorer app to have it on the Androids or apple i-thingo's. We have it on a Samsung Tab 3 and its fantastic.

On Friday we are taking a trek down through Condamine Gorge etc to the Gold Coast. I've plotted the route on the desktop pc and synced it to the tablet ready to go. Best $35 I've spent in a long time  ;D

   Yep, I think the 'App on a tablet' is going to kill the stand alone gps units.


My cheapie running Ozi CE died.
It got replaced with a Samsung Galaxy 8" and Ozi for Android and a heap of other apps for mapping, finding sun angles, tides, skype, wikicamps and some stuff for my music and e-books.

Maybe but after having hema and mud maps on iPad since launch I bought the HN7 earlier this year and won't be going back. Works a treat very happy with it and how easy (and cheap) it is to add and manage maps. Well designed gear and fits well on the dash. The iPad is now for the lounge room and van.

No Spada works without mobile reception provided your tablet has inbuilt GPS. All the maps & POI are loaded onto the tablet. If you make your own route its saved to the tablet for use offline.
There's also a function to take screenshots of specific areas and saving to the device if you are researching stuff before heading off.

When you are driving along and you get photo's along the way you can attach them to that tour and the pictures will automatically get sync'd to the map in the location you took them (it works with my mobile phone and out Sony Camera as both have GPS functions).

I am a bit of a computer neanderthol by choise.
I have just got myself a HN7 and like it.
I found an un expected bonus with this unit that never occired to me before.
The kids don't wish to use it, if I had a tablet stuck to the window, the moaning would be none stop.....  :cup:

We have the explorer if you look on teh hema site there's a table that compares each app and the explorer had all teh guff that the 4wd one has plus more. Dunno why they even bothered making the other one when I looked at the table.

4WD maps is only available for iOS devices.  The Explorer app is for both but a lot of the app stuff needs an internet connection.

The whole idea of the app is you don't need internet. Only thing need for the net is if you want the weather and rain overlay.

We just did a trip thru Condamine Gorge, Queen Mary Falls and the Main Ranges through to the Gold Coast on the weekend. Didn't need or have access to internet on our tablet from when we left home early Friday till we got home late Sunday.

You need to be online for street maps, terrain and satellite imagery.  Also you only get two topo maps included and have to buy any extra maps whereas 4WD maps comes with 70 odd detailed Hema maps.

Once you do the intial download you get all those other items in the post download options. As for the topo maps they are currently free on android you just goto the download tab and wholla you get them. For some reason the apple app you have to pay for them.

If anybody watch Pat Callaghans show on the weekend he had a techy thing on these with the guys who made them. The whole idea is they can be used offline (without the weather overlay).

the android app can be used offline. Initially it takes a while to download a;; the maps, but once on the tablet, you can use it offline.
It really helped in Byfield NP having the tablet with the detailed maps providing a GPS fix on a map. Made navigation significantly easier :D...
