Cubby house Plans

I was looking at getting the little on a cubby house for Christmas but they are super expensive for a decent one.

New plan, I'm going to build one.

Has anyone got any plans for one. Possible with a material list etc.

I have looked online a bit but I thought I would tap the extensive knowledge that is myswag.

Mitre10 used to have free project plans including a basic cubby. If I can find an old copy at home I'll scan and PM it to you, but maybe try a search on google also.

I went through this a few years ago. Depending on what you plan to build, it worked out cheaper for me to buy a prefab (during a discount sale) and get them to supply/install.

Same here,  I looked at it and figured it would take too much of my time in trial and error to save any real money.  Ended up buying a used one off eBay.

They would be relatively easy. Modest Have 70x35 pine ripped lengthwise to 35x35 as stud wall and fence palings as weatherboards.

I looked at building one and then i found one for sale about 2k's away for less than the cost of materials, that was probably 6 years ago and i just sold it for more than i paid for it

Any industrial estates around you??
Go and find one that does large machinery and find an old crate, perfect starting point unless you want a 5 star latte' sipping style.

If I was going to build one I would try and get a heap of pine pallets. There are a few places that get rid of them for nothing because they are non returnable and cost money to dump. If you get a heap you can use for walls, floor and what ever else. Then you would just need to get some timber to join it all together. Could be a really cheap option if you can get a hold of some pallets.

I built one for our kids in the backyard, but I build houses for a living so it was easy for me...lol. I just used 4 sleepers to make a square base frame (half of that base is covered in decking and half a sand pit), 4 corner posts and them some joists for a floor up off the ground. Pine frame like a house has and some rafters for a pitched roof. Clad sides in weatherboard and corro iron on the roof. Grabbed a slippery slide from a mate who is a landscaper and job done in a day...see I said it's easy...lol

buy a 2nd hand one off gumtree cheap. that's what I did

Google Mitre 10 cubby house plans...they do great plans complete with cutting list. I've built a hexagon gazebo from their plans before and found them very useful

There are people making houses out of pallets so this would work well for a cubby.  It's like using blocks.  Lots of ideas and instructs arround.  Here's one

If you do build one, use treated pine fence pailings like weatherboards, cheap, and when stained look like the ones they sell at Aaron's, bunnings, etc. ours is pretty decent and cost about 1/4 what they cost at the shops.

I ended up buying a used cubby off Ebay, then put it on 1.5 stilts, and built a deck around it.
Worked out way cheaper than buying a new kit, and came with a slide, rope ladder & firemans pole. Only thing was, we had to dismantle it ourselves.

It has been stained since the last photo, and is all the same colour as the cubby.

Daughter absolutely loves it, and we find ourselves up there every now & then looking out over the hills.

I bought a cubby house on OO for $300 delivered and then built a deck and raised it up, started out like this.

And finished


About $600 all up, we bought a new house about 3 months after finishing it and was easy to move, daughter loves it even more in the new back yard.


So I cheated a little with the house but in terms of expense, worked out very well.

Nice job. We are looking to do something similar. My girls have been asking me for about 4 years to build a cubby house!

They had a deal for free freight. The decking gear, rails, steps etc came from bunnings.
