UHF Installation

I want to install a UHF Radio in the new pajero, but don't want to go punching holes in the dash or console to attach it. Same with the brake controller when it goes in too.

Has anyone installed a radio or controller without screwing it down?

How did you do it and where is it located?

Are there any models of radio parTicularly suited to this?

The Icom 440N has all the controls and speaker in the handpiece.  The handpiece bracket/clip can be double  sided taped to the dash.  No holes.  The main radio can be mounted under a seat or up under the dash out of sight.

In my previous vehicle, I also used double sided tape, the good quality stuff, to mount the Tekonsha P3 bracket.  Again no holes.

GME and Uniden has the same setup. The box itself is very small and can be hidden everywhere.
Mine is in the center console.

As aboove i used the Icom 440 check Chesters Dmax build thread for how it was done with no holes drilled

As for the brake controller yes i drilled this in cause if you use tape and it comes loose and moves around the thing will go spastic so it was a safety issue that i wouldnot compromise on

You could also look at one of the remote head unit setups.

The latest GME unit allows you to plug the mic either into the head unit
or the radio, a very flexible setup.

I have.

bought flat ally length from bunny's - bend into a 'z' shape.
this sits by the passenger's right knee cap, and the 'z' slots under where the centre console plastic meets the carpet, and back down between the carpet and the bare metal floor hidden under the console - if that makes sense.

screw unit to 'z' shape first. also use duct tape or similar around the top of the ally where it will sit just off the plastic, so any screws or the ally itself will not rub on the plastic - it shouldn't if you have bent it properly.

works perfectly.
whilst at bunnys, also get double sided industrial strength sticky squares - they are amazingly sticky and will easily mount the microphone to any dash surface you wish - vertical or otherwise.

I bought the GME TX3100 PNP.

does not require drilling holes and can be completely removed when not travelling.
