TYRES
« on: October 21, 2014, 02:06:05 PM »
I'm aware there have been numerous discussions about tyres.

Just looking for comments on recent tyre buyers.

I've just about run down a full set (5) Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib (LT265/70/17) done 85,000 and counting down.  I have been very very happy with their performance.

Contacted a couple of dealers to replace them and told the replacement are ATZ P3's and all three dealers in Sydney Metro area and they want $435 per tyre.

This is a little more than I want to pay I don't care how good they say they area.

Please reply with possible alternatives.

I was looking for a good all round tyre for the 200 when we took delivery back in March.

We too had the ATZ 4 rib and were very happy with them, and we have also had the Cooper ST Maxx, which again we were happy with - and both of these we had on our Pajero.  When it came to the 200, I figured that we do 80% on the tarmac to get to the 20% off road, and the P3 and ST Maxx were just that little too aggressive.

We went with the Bridgestone Dueler D697 AT and we have been extremely impressed with them.  We have had one puncture, but that was from a spike on the Old Ghan Railway Line which any tyre would have had the same result as I wasn't paying attention, ran over it and it flicked up from the front tyre and straight into the rear tyre which puctured.

On road they have great manners and are not noisy, and offroad they have been equally as good.  They were also cheaper than the other two options too!

Brand: Bridgestone Dueler D697
Type: AT
Size: 285/70/17
Expected Milage: No idea but lots
Cost: $353ea
Dealer: City Discount Tyres in Adelaide

November last year we got our new tyres, we dug around and ended up getting some Hankook AT RF10's so far we have done some off road work in them and just under 30,000k and they still have plenty left.

We got these cause we had cheap (and i mean really cheap) tyers which were Nexen AT and they were horrible, on and off road, in the wet even worse, just didnt feel safe driving with the wife and 3 kids.
Put the hankooks on and the 4wd just felt way better.

Brand: Hankook RF10
Type (AT / MUD): AT
Size: 265/75/16
Expected mileage: 80,000 +
Cost: $199.00
Dealer location: Albury NSW Jax

Can't go past BFG km2's MT. Very quite for MT and great on road manners considering they are a muddy. Most people report getting well over 80,000km from them.

I got mine from cornells tyres who sell on eBay, free freight to metro cities, only cost me $75 to get the shipped from Adelaide to port augusta and they organized the on forwarding. Paid $10 per tyre for fitting.

Brand: BFG KM2

Type: MT

Size: 265/75R16

Mileage: +80,000 km

Cost: $250

Dealer: sells on eBay but located in Bexley NSW

Hopefully lino6 will see this post as he will know more of the answers.  We put new tyres on the dmax earlier this year

Brand: Maxxis

Type (AT / MUD): All terrain

Size: Should of gone out in day time and checked, standard size that were on it new 265 ? 16

Expected mileage: Not sure

Cost: $249

Dealer location: Wodonga (not closest to us but had great service from them when he got a flat tyre on another vehicle).

I will ask when he gets home the answer to the others and edit then.  I have been very happy with them so far though still good on the road and did alright on the one trip we did to HC with them

You get what you pay for pretty much. Personally Id fork the extra $$ out and get the P3. If you were happy with the ATZ 4 rib you will be rapt with the P3 or go the KM2

I'll back up KB & JCOJ with their appraisal of the D697's: had them for over a year and am 100% satisfied. Quiet, bag nicely in sand, and grip well in gravel/dirt/mild rock terrain.
285/65/R17's @$370 ea at Bridgestone Cleveland last year.  Very satisfied.
