Fencing Costs

Just wondering what is the going rate (high to low) for a 1.8m high paling fence in the Brisbane area at the moment? Hardwood rails and posts and pine railings. Length of fence 18m approx.

Not sure of costs but can I suggest you use steel posts instead of timber. Will last a lot longer.

We are currently building our fence, We have chosen to stay with the style that it there which is a horizontal slat type fence. We couldn't get the same size materials as what was used so we have used treated pine decking over a 40m span 1.8 tall which also include two gates, one is 4 meters and the other 1.2 meters.

We got all the timber, screws hinges and all other required parts from that big green box as my mother works there... staff discount so we are up to $3890 including a roller gate system as well in that.

We have been building it for the past 3 weekends.

We are paying our subbie $52/m + GST for 1800 high 3 rail and palings butted together. That's with HWD posts and rails and softwood palings all CCA treated and averaging 40 metres/job.
There are cheaper people from Gumtree ads but I wouldn't go that way without looking at the quality, and make sure the post holes are a good depth and concreted in.
You would have to factor in things like quantity of work etc, and 18 metres won't make it a desirable job, so delivery and plant costs would need to be raised accordingly.
They would probably need to price in 2 guys for 1 day so the labour content would be high.
If you want to talk low to high, I would be suggesting the $60 to $75 GST inclusive would be a fair for a small job.

My father in law and I built our backyard fence out of the same materials. Similar length and all from the big green shed. Think it worked out to around $800 but that was doing it all ourselves. Next time I'm paying someone. Digging holes sucks

Bugger timber fences - I would be looking at colorbond last forever - do it once and never touch it again! 8)

yeah, depends. next door neighbour's kid was a cricketer. Had so many dents in our colourbond fence after 6 month's. The paint faded and went chalky after a few years as well.
But yeah I agree it is the way to go. So easy to put up even I can do it.

Years ago one of the child care centres I worked in had colourbond fencing around the kids yards and across one section of our car park, the car park one had panels kicked in that many times at night or weekends that they didn't end up getting replaced, it was so frustrating though when they would kick in the ones on the kids yards cause then we couldn't play outside until fixed
