Alternative to Drifta pullout kitchen....

Hallo people... Any idea for an alternative to the Drifta pullout kitchen.... They look good, but the service has not been the best, and I would like something under the $1000 mark.... My tailgate drops down so can't go with a tale gate kitchen....

Have you spoken with Luke? This would be the first time I have ever anything negative about Drifta.

BTW just buy the DPO, it is a work of art and nothing else comes close. Lots of $ but well worth it.

Good point.  Though few have the tools and more importantly the skill to do it.  Drifta have their cut lists and joinery done pat.

By the time you buy the good ply and the tools to do it there is not a real saving.

It should be fairly easy to modify the tailgate to a side swinging gate.
Yes the drifters are expensive but as everyone has said, the dude there has a great reputation

what exact issue are you having.?

As a carpenter/joiner, IMO I think they are pretty cheap.  The materials they use are good and the workmanship is very good for the price.  Add the fact they will modify / custom make stuff for nothing or very little extra.

Draw up a rough plan of what you want and go to a couple of joiners for a quote and your jaw might drop!

your probably right.. still doesn't make it cheap.

My thoughts exactly.  Fantastic produce.  They are not cheap though.  Just terrific value  :D

By cheap I meant labour/materials.  For a custom camp kitchen it's cheap, but it's a very expensive plywood box...

Sketch something you want up, take it and you camper to an alloy fabricator and get them to give you a cost on a far lighter system. They could probably look at modifying your drop down gate to a swinging one too?

have a crack and make one yaself, I made mine after buying some power tools watching a few vids the final product looks like $hit and dosnt function all that well and is too heavy, actually just bite the bullet and buy a drifta

Got a tailgate kitchen, tap broke Luke replaced with better product. Visited factory for drawer system, Beechy helpful great advice. Ordered drawer system Julie and the office staff kept me up to date with order and had it out on time as discussed. Can't fault product or service!

I own nearly every power tool known to man, I know how to use them and I enjoy using them.
But after adding up the cost of materials and my time I ended up ordering from drifta.
Best thing I ever did to the old soft floor.
And service was #1...

We had most of our dealings with drifta via email as times to ring during business hours were hard at the time Luke was honest straight up and said he gets a lot of emails and takes a while to check them but from first question to when it came we had not one problem and very happy with the products we got the tailgate kitchen, over bed table and the bed head with lights all came so well packed bubble wrap boxes etc. Like D4D said this is the first negative I have heard about the company would I buy from them again yep you bet.

I'm  a cabinet Maker by trade Foreman of our workshopr and I wouldn't build my own set of draws for ute as by the time i buy ply' carpet to line them locks, runners/teflon sliders time to build them i'd be about $100 better off. So i think go the likes off drifta setup safe your self hassel.

To answer the question there is nothing else out there unless, as mentioned, you build something similar yourself.

I built my own storage box by getting the ply pre cut and glued and screwed it together. Saved half the price and it works great.

Had a good chat with Luke. And the problem is solved. No doubt it's a good product the Drifta kitchen. The response time and the convatations over the phone was a let down for me... But all good. I did a nice build my self 12mm marine ply and 3 layers of varnish over the top. Total cost $275

Yep, we went with a Drifta kitchen...... so happy with it!!
Space for it  in the camper was a really tight fit, and a challenge for the guys at Drifta- but we cannot fault them- they were absolutely fantastic. We would buy from them again in a heartbeat. A really genuine guy who prides himself in his workmanship.
They had an open day up there a couple of weeks ago. My Dad, who lives locally (and doesn't have a camper) went, and was so impressed by the extent he has grown, and the morale and courtesy of all the staff. Staff who are content and happy in their work will produce a good product...... and he is now the second biggest employer in Gloucester.
He must be doing something right! :)
