An Australian First: Newcastle's The Little Mermaid Jnr killed it in Atlanta, Georgia USA!

The much loved Disney favourite 'The Little Mermaid' is now a stage show, and will be dazzling audiences very soon in Newcastle!!!


It was an honour when Disney awarded The Hunter Region Drama School the rights to the stage production of 'The Little Mermaid Jnr' (the same Little Mermaid story that we all love, just performed by a cast of nine to eighteen year olds).

It's a first for Australia, and a major coup for Newcastle and the Hunter Region.

In the words of our incredible director, Daniel Stoddart  “This production will be like nothing Newcastle has seen before. We’ve taken the Hunter’s outstanding young talent, and secured an internationally loved story and songs. We’ve combined these with innovative sets and costumes to deliver a show that would shine on Broadway.”

This talented bunch is also the first Australian company ever to be invited to perform at the Junior Theatre Festival, an annual international event held in Atlanta in the USA, and they'll be excitedly heading over in January to perform scenes from The Little Mermaid Jnr.

I am a little biased as my daughter is performing in this amazing show, but I do have to say, this show is a MUST if you've got kids or are just young at heart and you live within a couple of hours of Newcastle...or are keen for a road trip or flying visit

It's only a couple of weeks now until the performance, so don't miss out and get in soon to get your tickets, your kids will love you for it   and don't forget to wear your favourite 'mer'costume along to the show 


The Little Mermaid Jr is on for five shows at the Civic Theatre from Thursday, October 9, until Saturday, October 11.

Well, hundreds of school kids have just laughed and clapped their way through the first show. Lots of rave reviews, and a sea of smiling faces, so now I'm even more excited to see the show

There's still time to catch this amazing performance. If I'm lucky, I might even catch some of you 'under the sea'... I'll be the extremely proud Mum with the permanent grin and aching cheek bones

Having a very proud Mum moment and wanted to brag share

My daughter, along with her Newcastle based drama group, were the first and only Australian group ever invited to compete in the International Junior Theatre Festival in America this week. Of the 101 groups competing, our Aussie contingent came in the top eight(they don't actually announce one winner, but eight), and were chosen as the festival's 2015 Outstanding Production, scoring themselves a huge trophy and requiring them to give a special performance at the awards ceremony. They were so excited just to be there, so all of this was a huge bonus.
There were also lots of requests during the festival for photos with the 'Ossies'.

They were also treated to workshops with and performances by Darren Criss aka Blaine from 'Glee', Megan Hilty from the tv show 'Smash' and also Glinda in Wicked (she's hubby's favourite...can't imagine why ), and also Robert & Kristen Lopez who wrote the music for Frozen..and yes, they sang Let It Go   (Robert also wrote the Broadway hits Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon)

It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience, and I don't think the kids will stop grinning for weeks...not to mention us proud parents
