Ice Bucket Challenge
« on: August 31, 2014, 09:53:36 AM »
Who here has done it? If so upload the vid.

Nominate someone on here to do it and maybe attach a $10 donation, payable by the person who nominates them after they upload vid?

I just don't get the whole thing.  I am really glad some people have made some money for charities but a lot of people are just doing it to go on youtube. Every day there is another 10 celebs that have done the challenge. By the end of the year I will be the only guy in OZ that hasn't done it.

i was talking to my young daughter about peer pressure and the guy in NZ whio died doing a ice bucket challenge about 3 or 4 weeks back (the one where they were sculling alcohol afterwards), and then the very next day i had 2 mates nominate me to do it. I have just ignored the whole concept to show her you don't need to do stuff just because others are doing it.

. By the end of the year I will be the only guy in OZ that hasn't done it.
trust me, you won't be alone  ;)

It's all a conspiracy by ice suppliers to increase demand in the middle of winter!  8)

I know someone who died from it and like the concept. It's not about peer pressure but a way to bring it to the forefront and raise money.

It's something you can do at home and all it takes is emptying your eski, by drinking the cans and then tip it over yourself :) Win Win

I think all these events/activities raise the required awareness and this one has worldwide legs. Many forums also play a vital part by providing companionship and communication where there might not otherwise be for many lonely people.
So I've decided to do my part today. Cheers:-)

there most certainly is an element of peer pressure about the challenge, friends nominating you on videos in public forums such as Crapbook to do something is just that.

I would never give to Red Cross! Athlegen massage tables donated 3 of them to be raffled and the admin took two of them home for themselves and raffled one.

Probably important to remember that ALS or MND is a disease that KILLS PEOPLE and no matter how stupid everyone thinks the ice bucket challenge is it has created an awareness that has more than doubled the amount raised from last year to more than 40 mil this year ...how is that stupid , bad or otherwise. Other charities should be so lucky.....

My son went up to the local servo last night to buy ice, the guy working at the servo asked him if he was doing the ice bucket challenge, then told my son ice sales were through the roof.

I was nominated and completed it 5 or 6 weeks ago long before these celebs started doing it. Peer pressure, I couldn't give a stuff, I did it for a bit of fun. I nominated 5 people and only 1 completed it. I didn't chase them up to do it, they are adults and can do as they please. Again a bit of fun and a few bucks for charity.

If you can believe the world press $100,000,000 bucks has been raised for research in this challenge so far .. $168,000 raised in one week compared to just $14,000 in the same month last year since the video went viral ..  :cup:
If this can help find a cure for this disease and other related ones I'm all for it .... I know my wife for one and our family would be gratefull to get her health  back and not be tied to hospitals and the pain / suffering  she gets at the moment .

I got nominated and did it a few weeks ago... Was a bit of fun.
It's not normally a charity I donate to.. But I thought why not....
I didn't feel any peer pressure.., I only have 5 friends and 3 of them don't like me... So I didn't gain any great Facewastebook fame. :(  lol
Of the 3 I nominated. I think only 1 did it. But that's their choice.
Always give 100%... Unless you are giving blood.. then it may not go so well...

Everyone else is doing so I better. Out of all the twits I have seen do it I haven't seen 1cent donated. I am happy to keep donating to the surf life savers as my chosen charity. If money is raised for a good cause that is great but it just seams like a status thing at the moment. If you did it in the middle of the city no one would see it anyway as they would be watching someone else on their phones.

Not trying to be negative, but that's a small hiccup in my book.

Agreed, I just hoping some of these idiots on YT actually donate, not just pour water on themselves. And yes, I do my bit in donating...

And they're still soliciting monies to "feed the starving children in africa"...how many decade's it been now?   ::)
I stopped giving to charities/causes of any description years ago after watching a report about one particular charity which had bought it's CEO a Learjet and Rolls Royce for his personal use   >:(

Had a mate say he was gonna nominate me.
Told him I will just donate, not spending my hard earnt cash on ice just to throw it on the ground that could be used to keep my drinks cold.
