Which GPS App for Android
« on: August 30, 2014, 12:38:02 PM »
Hi,
ive recently just bought a samsung galaxy Tab S, and also have my galaxy S5 phone, i am getting seriously into my stand up paddle boarding, hiking and mountain biking, i do alot of this solo.

my brother uses motion x gps on his iphone and ipad apparently his mrs can keep track of him when hes out paddling incase he has any dramas etc. he loves it but its not available on the android operating system.  ive looked at the backcountry navigation app for android but it doesnt have maps for Queensland.

does anyone have any suggestions for apps suitable for these activities im doing and what cost are they.

back country is $12.99 etc.
Cheers
Kieran

So others can track you Bubbler GPS linked to Spotwalla is excellent.

For navigation Oziexplorer is my favourite. You need to BYO maps but they can be sourced easily. Get the app from their website.
If you want maps included you can also use Hema Explorer. It also has a cloud sharing function but I've not used that side of it much. Seems a bit fiddly and annoying.

Also Maps.me for mapping if you just want to see where you are without data.
It just uses Open Street Maps. So if where you travel is not shown then you can add it to OSM later.

I use Ozi for android as well on a samsung tablet, also on my Samsung Galaxy phone. Works a treat, but as Landy says, you have to bring you rown maps.  Also androzi is good, but again bring your own maps.  ;)

Hi,
my son uses Backitude on an Android phone, and I have access to his page so I can see where he is at almost any time he is on the road.

Being Google Maps, I can zoom in anywhere if I need to.
