sad to hear that 3 people have died in the Dungog flooding...seeing houses wash away like that reminds me of what the Lockyer Valley copped a few years back killing 17 people i think it was.

We stayed at Riverwood Downs back in March and went to Dungog to pick up some extra supplies. What a really great rural town. Recognised some parts that were shown on the news tonight, it's just so hard to believe. Mother nature showing who is boss once again.

Has anyone heard how Riverwood Downs is fairing. I dare say the placid, quiet stream that goes through there isn't it's normal self.

It was forced to stay outside Sydney Heads overnight in rough conditions. Waves reached 15 metres at the peak of the storm, and passengers on board were feeling "very queasy".

Spoke via phone to my Dad last night- who is only another 20 mins up the road from Stroud- fine day yesterday- "could have dried the washing!"  :D
Yet flooding and devastation only 20 mins away!! Bizarre, eh??!

We flew over from Adelaide yesterday (luckily our flight wasn't cancelled) to board that boat for a holiday.

I feel for all the people on board, but from all reports I've heard the crew were excellent and very professional.

On a selfish note, I'm glad it's in, I'm looking forward to getting on board today :-)

Hope they've cleaned all the puke up from the seasick passengers before you get on:  "Most people have just been vomiting for the last two days. I did a load of laundry last night and there were people coming through just washing vomit out of their clothes."

But they have the magical, mythical green P plate to keep them safe.

Plenty of photos on the Newcastle Herald website here

We're at East Maitland but survived it all pretty well.

A brand new caravan, maybe 6 weeks old was flattened by a tree a few streets up, but these things are only possessions.

Three lives lost so far and more still missing...

If anyone in the area needs any help, warm showers, bedding etc please sing out, only too happy to help...

Here are a couple hubby took at Chinaman's Hollow, Abermain, Weston and the road out past the dam at Richmond Vale when he was trying to get home from Newcastle.
There was no chance he was going to risk drowning another 4wd (not to mention himself), so these obstacles turned his 45 min trip into a 2.5 hour trip.

Just want to mention again if anyone needs a hot shower, dry bedding or a home cooked meal, even just somewhere to charge your phone, always welcome here (East Maitland).

Stay safe, Robbo.

Thankfully our camper all the camping gear has been put to use making us comfortable as we have had no power since Monday so the camper trailer, is really coming into it's own.

Three power poles just snapped like twigs bringing down around 100m of wires, Ausgrid say it likely won't be until Sunday / Monday till we will be reconnected; so we are just treating the house like a really big camper trailer.

We currently have our genny and solar charging the batteries and through the inverter then running our freezers and a few low current devices (chargers, laptops etc...).  The Auspig purchased last weekend at the camping show is getting flogged for cooking as is the webber.

So far the novelty or having to make do isn't running too thin, but best of all my wife has finally stopped complaining about how much camping gear we have :-)

I think I may have pushed that one as far as I can - I "magically" bought out our the OzPig I purchased at the camping show whilst she was taking the kids to the loo and had been hiding in the back of the car..... ;D
