WW1 GS Wagon project (Horse Drawn Wagon)
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:43:00 PM »
Hi everyone,

I know there are a lot of ex and serving military types on this forum so I thought I would share this.

The contact details are on the Facebook page.

Couldn't find anything on the website.

This will be a great project to be involved with.

Both employees in the factory where this will occur are ex service, however only one is a Myswagger   ;D

Regards,

Ray

Would love to get involved! But being a serving member and the work load is crazy considering what is happening at the end of the year!
Cheers

Strvy

Interesting..

My father used one of these old wagons to move all the family stuff to the farm in Tolmie from Katandra in the 30s. When I was young (1960s) it was used around the farm to carry gravel and bags of spuds around the place behind the old fordson (steel wheeled variety).

It was pensioned off, and gradually rotted away beneath a large gum tree. Unfortunately the crown fell out of said tree in the 80s and flattened the whole show.

There are probably a few metal remnants of the frame, seat springs and other stuff still up there somewhere....

Hi Mace,

This one was in the Hunter Valley region.

It was used at Singleton during WW11 and sold in 47. Luckily they put it into a shed with some other gear so it is in good condition.

There are around 5 that are in military museums & private collections so it reasonably rare.

I recognised the seat first. The one on the farm was taken of the wagon and stored in the ceiling of an old barn we had.

We still had working draft horses on the farm in the 60s. All the yokes, leather straps, etc, fell foul of the wet climate up there back in them days and just rotted away. It was probably all old army surplus.
