Old air tank wanted - about train size

Does anyone know where or how you can get an old air tank about the size of the ones you find on the side of a train.

I want to make an "Ozpig" style fire tin to have in the backyard with ability to use as BBQ or like. Main reason I want a train size is I can use it for two, has a thick wall so that when hot will radiate heat well and fire wood is no issue to me.

I did have the chance to get one but at the time did not have the interest to make one.

What about using one of the larger domestic gas bottles?

Yes I was working on the track a couple of weeks ago and watching the freight trains go past reminded me and yes Malcolm brakes are overrated >:D

No problems with the thickness as they are a pressure vessel, they have been used as outdoor heaters, spits etc

I know the older Solarhart and some of the Rheem water tanks used to be 2.8mm steel.

Your local Vehicle Gas, fitter, should know where to find them.

The 1 I have is definitely steel

Think most of the metro suppliers use aluminium but us country folk still use mostly steel.

Ceeezzzzz it D4D in Vic & BHG in NSW for unused project material . lt amazes me the crap stored in there sheds
 l have used an old LPG gas can from a car that cost me Sweet FA . Cut a lid in after the gas was washed out & it sat full of water for 2 weeks . Out with the angle grinder , not loud bang , & away we go . Now l can cook with 2 X 14 inch Camp ovens if required . Works as a heater after that  :cheers:

No the one I was able to get was off an electric locomotive it was about 1.8m long 800mm in diameter

Yes about this size but not with hot rivets as this would be about 12mm thick - welded one would come in around 6-8mm thick wouldn't 't take as long to heat up

 Well Done Mace  That tank is the ideal thing & it already has the lid set out to follow the weld line . At the top drill 8 holes to mount the hinges . Then finish the cut  remove the panel to fit the hinges . Weld on 2 horse shoes 1 either side so the lid wont fall in to far  & grind back the sharp edges you have created cutting the hole in the 1st place  . Cut some draft holes in the bottom sides so it can breath , chuck in wood , grab  :cheers:  Enjoy  :cheers:
