Growing a great lawn
« on: June 22, 2014, 07:32:42 AM »
Hoping to tap into the wealth of Myswag knowledge and ask for your tips and tricks for an awesome lawn. My front lawn is okay but not awesome but my back yard is crap with our dogs on it all the time.

How often should I mow, what fertiliser do you reccomend, how do you get great edges around path ways, any bindy sprays that work without killing half the lawn at the same time etc

Thanks in advance

I heard the best tip the other day.
Mow your back yard first, then front and then the nature strip.
Reason being all weed seeds blow down the road and mostly get caught in the nature strip. If you mow this first you carry all the seeds through the rest of the yard.

I do like the astro turf look, we had a quote to install it around our pool however a cost of $15k put me off,
Anywho back to the lawn,
Aerate it first, then put a good topsoil down then a good regular watering and you'll have a lush green lawn, all this is assuming you get regular sun

When I lived down south I used to dress the lawn twice a year with dynamic lifter 1st then Shelleys number 13 about two weeks later. Regular water is the key.

My lawn up here doesn't get any fertiliser, it just gets plenty of water (rain) :D

I do like the astro turf look,

Me too, I use it as carpet throughout the work van, I've even got an astro turf dash matt.
More durable than carpet.

Astro turf, yeah, if you want the yard to have that Macca's playground look and feel. And good luck hosing dog turds down into it.  :D
