Ebay question when seller refuses to sell.
« on: June 16, 2014, 02:56:16 PM »
Today I made bids on a set of camera memory cards and won. My winning bid was only $6.50 so not a big deal.  I paid immediately via PayPal and then I got the following email from the seller.

Dear Kevin,

I am sorry to inform you that as I'm new to paypal there was a typing  error on the bid system. I will refund you your money as I paid both card @$28 and I can't even sell it for $6.

I hope you understand my situation and sorry for the inconvenience caused
Thank you and

kind Regard,
Jean

Like I said, it is only $6.50, but what do you people think I should do.  I thought all auctions had that risk for the seller that, you may not get what you want.   ???   Kevin

First up nice and get your refund.

Depending on how you feel about the deal, leave feed back, and then your done and don't worry about it.  >:D

One thing though, I couldn't think of a worse thing than having dodgy camera memory cards, where you loose your photos.

Had some thing similar happen, but on Wheels & Rims.
The add heading sasy Wheels & Rims (note the S on rims - indicates more than 1), so did the body text.

Put in the winning bid, paid, then the guy said:-
A) it was only for 1 wheel & rim
B) typing mistake
C) had created a seperate add for someone who just wanted to buy 1 and hadn't changed the text
d) all of the above

I had better things to do than argue - walked (typed) away & left it.

I would try the Ebay internal dispute resolution route.
No one forces people to start low and hope they get a good price. If they wanted a reserve price they could have the reserve system or listed it at a higher starting price, but chose not to.
I had a Rodeo on there a few years ago that I thought was worth around $3500, but got no bids. Ebay said I should try with a lower start price so I did it again from $1750, and that's what I got for it. One lousy bid at the starting price, but I just sucked it up and gave it to the buyer with good grace.
I wouldn't accept a refund until the whole thing was resolved.
Cheers.

I was trying to buy a second hand kitchen for a Reno I was doing.
At the last minute I wanted to thro a bid in at $2800 but typed $28000 instead!
AND I LOST THE AUCTION - highest bid was $28001
The highest bidder was using a bidding program I guess. The seller contacted me and said the winner refused to pay - obviously!
I said I would still buy the kitchen for $2800 - he still wanted $28000 - I said that is great, lucky I was not the high bidder.

Seller should have cancelled the auction, you can stand your ground and go through
the Paypal protection scheme, but keep in mind they can only recover the funds if they
are in the sellers account.

Personally, as it is only a few dollars I would wait until you can lodge a claim for undelivered
goods and go down that path just to cause the seller some angst.

The seller should have honoured it. You should leave negative feedback.
I've sold quiet a few items on ebay, some went for a lot lower than I expected & some went way higher than I imagined. Also as a buyer I got some real bargains. It kind of balances out & everything I'm selling I no longer want anyway.

To be fair, we put 3 sets of Prestige Number plates up for auction once and having never done it before, didn't put in a reserve.
(Our fault)

We were hoping for a $1,000 per set and the winning bid was $1,800.00.  :'(

I just decided to honour the bid and the guy got his plates. In fact, he never even knew we stuffed up, we just decided it was the right thing to do.

I have not got my money back, not too worried about that small amount, but he or she has just sent this email, which to me says it is all up to me to get the money back.  That is not fair.  But, live and learn, it is evil bay.  >:D   Kevin

My apology it wasn't PayPal it's eBay. I have explained my situation to you in full honesty.

If you are not convince about my sincere intention then you can contact eBay and PayPal for your refund.

Once again I'm sorry.

Thank you and

Kind Regards,
Jean.

If you paid using Paypal then find their disputes page and fill in the details and they will ring after a few days.
I had a problem with a dick Smith purchase using Paypal and had my $400.00 bucks back in about a week.

Similar thing happened to me with sydney tools. They listed a cordless grass trimmer for $170 buy now which I promptly paid. They then said they had no stock and wouldnt send one regardless that they had another 10 listed at over $250. I even said I was prepared to wait but they said they wouldnt be getting more. When I mentioned they had others available they said the listings were also a mistake.

Paypal are pricks and dont/ cant do squat about things like this. My brother bought and payed for a gearbox to be delivered to his door, never turned up when seller said it would and after numerous ebay messages and promised delivery dates nothing was received.
About 3 months later after bro had bought another gearbox the seller says he can deliver  >:( , of course he said too late i want my money but Paypal did FA.

Always pay with visa! I got ripped off in Italy and the bank just reimbursed the money . Why deal with paypal when your bank sorts it out.

I had a recent incident where the description of the item (sizing) was different to my interpretation.  (ID v OD measurement)  Anyhoo the wrong size turned up and I emailed the seller. They very clearly explained their interpretation, and I explained mine.  Appeared there was never going to be any close agreement.
We weren't talking sheep farms in terms of $$'s, so I took a slightly different approach and said.

OK, understand, maybe state that in your description in future and I would get the right size.
I then said, what to do as I don't want to have to leave negative feedback?
Then all of a sudden they had a change of heart and posted me the correct size at no additional charge.

Depending on the seller and the value involved, sellers possibly get penalised for negative feedback from what I understand and this seller didn't want that.

I also posted back at my expense ($3) the incorrect item and all were happy.

Moral of the story is mention the word negative feedback and see what happens.

The seller user name is zoreille1117 and the email was signed Dany Mariette.  I got a message from Paypal saying my money has been refunded, $6.04.  Which is funny because I paid $6.50.  But no matter and I was debating (I have been told I am a master at debating, well that is not exactly how they worded it) about leaving negative feedback, but the seller has only 5 previous ebay transactions, so maybe it all was a very genuine mistake.   So another moral to the story is, only go with big sellers who have good feedback.  And thanks to all of your replies.  Kevin

I bought a cane lounge setting for nearly 3 grand. 18 months later the SWMBO wanted to change up the decor so onto Evilbay it went. Being new to EPay, just banged it on expecting to get a fair price for it, sold for $120.50...

Lesson learnt and spent the money on booze to ease the pain...
