Jayco Outback Hawk 2005 - Storage when packed up
« on: June 01, 2014, 08:15:15 PM »
Hi All

We currently have a 2003 Built Tough soft floor camper trailer with 12ft tent and a 6ft awning (no sides etc).  We have upgraded it a few times over the years to make it a little more comfortable to suit our growing family - Drifta Kitchen, brakes, front storage box, water tanks and so on.  After the last couple of trips away we have been thinking of buying a preloved Jayco Outback Hawk, I have found one today (2005 Outback) that ticks all of the boxes and will be off tomorrow to see what I can do.

We like the configuration of the Hawk plus from my measurements it will fit in our garage with ease.  My big question is, can you store gear on the floor when it is packed up?  I see there is plenty of storage in it around the kitchen I and think there is heaps under the club lounge area but we have a Weber Q, Coleman Hot On Demand System, Porta Potti (girls...), camp chairs etc that I am concerned about packing in during storage and transit. We have a 150 Prado and I really like our current set up of only our fridge and clothes in the back.  I do not really want to have to pack it and unpack it with the Hawk.

Also on a 2005 model vintage, are there any specific issues I should be looking at.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Hey Mate, we have a swift outback and store a heap of our gear in it while we travel. We have our toilet, hot water system, shower tent, 3x3m gazebo, bed fly poles, our chairs and fishing rods. Depending on where we're going the morning we head away I may add things or take things out. Just have to be prepared to crawl inside to do it but I don't mind it all. One down side is you block off your access to your fridge but we travel with our food in our car fridge and then transfer when we get to our location. It also adds a couple of extra minutes to set up but I find that is saved by not having to pack and unpack the car with all the gear every time.

Dan, I've got a 93 eagle currently, the camp chairs seem to fit well under the table when it's collapsed, I then put our blow mould table and trestles on top of this.  There's normally plenty of room for our baby q, extra clothes, gazebo, porta potti, 2 kids bikes and our space case of food. Perhaps there's too much room!

We used to have the 2007 model outback hawk and would regularly have gear packed on the floor when travelling, I chose not to leave anything on the floor permanently as it would eventually tarnish the vinyl floor

we have an old blanket that we use to protect the floor. More to prevent scratches when dragging things out.

In our Hawk I pack a couple of fold up tables, ensuite tent, pillows, 4 folding chairs, porta-potty, baby Q on the floor.  I jam the four sleeping bags in any cracks to lock it all into place and I use our foam tiles/ensuite floor to protect the cupboards and stop things sliding around.

Chainsaw, hot water system and Engel go in the jeep with the clothes.
