Camper top storage bags

Wondering if anyone has tried to put a water proof/dust proof storage bag on top of your soft floor camper for extra storage(store pillows, clothes etc).

If so, what brand did you use, and how did you tie it down? Most Of the ones I see (Rhino, MSA etc) have straps for tying down onto roof racks, but wondering how it goes for a larger area on the top of a soft floor camper trailer and whether you can run straps off the ones they provide.

Leave all the pillows and stuff on the bed.. No need to remove it and stuff around with it

I've often wondered about getting something sewn into the cover for the awnings and stuff, but again they go on the bed.

Havent tried it our pillows are usually in a garbage bag or something in the car until they go on the bed if we are staying in a few spots they travel on the bed, when I get a new pillow for home I think my current one might stay in the camper.  We usually have our clothes bags in the back of the ute.  Our camper has a fair bit of room under the cover so once the bed is folded it is awning walls, ladder, chairs, and the clip together mats that we put under the camper floor.  I guess the bag you mentioned could work you would just want to make sure it was secured well as the camper top if it is like ours could be slippery.  What about ratchet straps over the top?

I could not pack my camper up with pillows on the bed but the bed stays made when closed up.

A company in Cairns has deigned a camper trailer top cover with extra storage in the cover. I have not seen any other camper company do this.

Whatever you put on top of the camper would have to be dustproof pretty good.

I once used a large plastic bag, that was from a queen size mattress, and put bags in this and no dust at all. It was attached to the top of the camper with a cargo net and had no problems.

A company in Cairns has deigned a camper trailer top cover with extra storage in the cover. I have not seen any other camper company do this.

You undo a zipper right around it and it enlarges?? My original cover and replacement cover that still fell apart had this design...

They made it as a storage area with zips both sides.

yea mine had a zipper right around... you undid the zip and it gave you 100mm more storage on top of the bed under the cover - was yours on top of the cover?

Correct. it was a separate storage area.

I have a Rhino roof top bag that goes on top of my boat rack when we are loaded to the hilt, I see no reason why you could not put it on top of the soft floor, it has been through a heap of dust and driving rain and never leaked

That's kinda what I wa thinking....but then I'm not sure how to tie/strap it down easily so it doesn't slide around

Mark..we're just thinking some options through...

There are 4 of us for this trip.....4 adults...that means 4 chairs, and Olivia's tent and 2 camping air beds, clothes for 4, pillows for 4, food for 4.

It's more than we are used to....so giving some thought to what's possible. And easy.

Might not be any help...but I Cavalier off W.A Campers in Balcatta and the storage bag on top was huge and both water proof and dustproof...

I bought a storage bag to go on top of the hard floor and it had our kit bags with clothes in it. Have to admit the weather was fine so we don't know if it leaks or not. I think i will put the chairs in it next time and have our clothes in the camper.

Some time ago JK got me onto the bigfoot bags - http://www.bigfootbag.com/camping.php

I got the 'medium' one for my double swag, which would be big enough for pillows and stuff.  You could get a 'large' but that would almost be as long as your camper.  It's waterproof so would be dustproof as well.

Drop around sometime if you want to have a look at it.

As for securing it I'd just use ratchet straps, if you don't have tie points they are pretty easy to fit.

AS Symon mentioned, straps across the trailer at either end of the bag and then the compression straps of the bag would wrap around the straps across the trailer and hold it down

Mark an idea might be to put the girls in the bag and free up space in the back of the car.

Mark if you are just wanting extra storage for the Cape trip we have a MSA bag you can borrow. Sorry cant remember if you have a roofrack or not. Let me know if you need it.
On touring trips like this we leave the pillows on the bed when we pack up.

We got our vinyl cover modified so it was 200mm higher, managed to store heaps of crap in there then, tables/clothes/quilts/sleeping bags etc. Only cost $120 at a canvas shop.

We have all our bedding stay on the bed in our Johnnos plus the swags for the boys just laid on top. Maybe see a upholstery maker and get them to add a bit in there so you have space for that.
