Mobile Coverage on the Stuart Highway
« on: May 25, 2014, 08:30:02 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Could anyone tell me what the mobile coverage is like from Pt Augusta to Darwin. Hubby & I have traveled that road a few times but not since 2003 when the coverage was not too good. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Sue.

probably best to check the coverage maps from your provider. telstra has some along the way, others not so much.
google is you friend!

Hi Sue,

If you've got a next G blue tick eg: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/170777997461?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107
My wife's phone gets service from Pt Augusta to Pimba, then you get 25k's south and then 25k's north of Coober, then service at Marla, then at Erldunda then you pick up service again about 50k's south of Alice. So in 1200k's from Pt Augusta to Alice, you've probably got about 270'ish k's of service.
Can't help you north of Alice though :)

Cheers
John

Last july when we did the trip we got minimal coverage even on Telstra using an induction cradle and antenna.  Even less across the Tanami, except near the mines.

Very scratchy all the way up. Refer to the map for Telstra 3g and 4G coverage.

Telstra would be the best coverage.
