Chernobyl ...
« on: May 06, 2014, 08:57:55 PM »
Son is doing an assignment on Chernobyl... I didn't realise its 29yrs last month since the disaster...

I showed him Alana's site.. http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter2.html   I remember when this site first popped up - 10 yrs ago..

Gee time goes quick.. :(
Anyway, he got some good info off it.. Just got me thinking I wonder what condition the reactor is in these days, and when it will happen again....

Bit more info

I reckon it would be great to do a tour. Don't think I would do it on a motorbike like that photographer dude did, unless I had lead leathers on...

Sent from somewhere on something with that tap thing

NO stress, I cant stand Top Gear these days anyway!

Streetfire.net have all the current Top Gear season episodes. Only annoyance is they are in 10min blocks.
The up side of that is you can probably jump to the relevant segment & skip the fluff. I can't remember how much useful info they gave us on Chernobyl.
One thing I love about TG though  - the cinematography (is it still called that on digital?)  is seriously good for a TV show.
I'd love to visit Chernobyl. On my bucket list of ultimate places to photograph.

Same. Would love to do a bit of a tour including some of the German prison camps and some of the WW2 stuff.

From memory the sarcophagus is cracking and will eventually fail.  There are plans underway to place a new unit over the top of the old one.

Havent the animals adapted very well though? Remove man from the equation (even with a shedload of radiation left behind) and other species profit.

That's the one I was thinking of.  They visited Chernobyl in one episode. Went to the room the original firefighters took their clothes off in. Readings were off the scale. Very sad.

I loved the old couple who still lived on their farm in the exclusion zone. All the fallout went the other way so their land is relativley untouched.
