Indian scammers still at it with different tatic.
« on: May 03, 2014, 08:45:00 AM »
2 calls yesterday.
1st one saying he was from telstra bigpond saying i was downloading illegal software and my internet would be shutdown for 6 months if they didn't remove it.
Ok. thought, i will play along. I unplugged my lan cable. he passed me onto someone else. He went on to explain in very heavy Indian accent the windows key next to the C T R L and the A T L keys. Press that and hold and press R, what do you see, now type in  WWW.HELP1010.COM. after the not loading error, he asked if it connected to the internet. I said yes, i then asked where he was from again, he said telstra, i said no your not, he hung up.

2nd call. This time, i was prepared. I have ECom station running in VMware. Again said my internet with bigpond will be shutdown for 6 months due to bag software on my pc upsetting there servers and he can clean it.
He asked what the key between Ctrl and Alt looked like. Then asked me to press and hold and press R. Asked me to type eventvwr in the window. I had to quickly go back into win7 for this bit. Asked me to check for an error in a drop down list on one of the options. Yes was the answer. He then asked me to again do the window key and R again and go to WWW.HELP1010.COM. I did this in ECom station. Asked if i could see what was on the page and describe it. Told him. he asked me to click on 1st option, download and run. It wouldn't run. I told him the exact error i was getting. This threw him. He asked me to download it again. Same error. Asked me to download the 2nd option and run. Different error which i told him. Again threw him. Asked me to go to www.sharemypc.com and download a program there. It errored also. With this, he started to get very abusive. told him where to go and hung up. ;D

I took a precaution of unplugging the phone overnight in case he tried to ring at 2 in the morning.

James

P.s. I am not with bigpond.

Agreed. My number is listed on donotcall but I am still getting calls.

Sad person that I am I am taking entertainment out of wasting their time. Managed to keep him on the line for over 10 min.  >:D

They rang my father the other day who has one of the early Telstra 10 hour plans so he doesn't use the net much . . . .  But they still tried it on with him.

Been hit twice in the last week in the ACT, second time I gave him a refs whistle at full noise, I nearly wet myself at his reaction!

Thats only for companies based in Australia. Any overseas ones it doesn't affect.

A guy at work asked one 'can you see the harbor bridge from where you are?'
"yes"
'What colour is it today?'
"its colour doesn't change"
'yes it does, they change the colour every day. what colour is it today?'
"blue"
'WRONG'   hung up

Tell them you are in a meeting, to leave their company name and number, and you'll call them back.

As soon as there is a delay I just wait till they answer and tell them to piss off and hang up.
If there is no delay, the pronunciation of my name is a dead give away. My name is Graeme, they always pronounce it Gramee.
I had them call last Thursday, don't know what it was about hung up on him before he could tell me.

That's what I do as well.

GraemeL- Your surname is Lebroy by any chance and you were once an international cricketer? (insert 12th man Reference.)

We have a private phone number and were getting these calls so I registered on do not call and they we never get any. Also put in my parents and work numbers and they've stopped, so it works for us aswell.

My kids (2&4) run for the phone as they know I will hand it straight to them. We don't use our home phone so all inbound calls are marketers.

Mucking them around for half an hour describing DOS 4 screens is always a hoot followed by getting confused about the 'windows' they are talking about and how they know what my house looks like
