selling my swag
« on: May 02, 2014, 08:34:57 PM »
Hi there fellow swaggers,
I am in the process of selling my Aussie swag. Perhaps someone can enlighten me. We have had a great deal of interest, locally and interstate in the swag we have for sale.. We usually get an email enquiry, mostly on camping and caravan sales.. with phone numbers etc saying they are keen to inspect, not the usual higher than asked for price. They usually discuss a time to inspect and sometimes a few questions.. and then we hear nothing further.. Are these people just being annoying? Has anyone else had this same experience of late. The only conclusion we can come to is that some people have a lot of time on their hands trying to add to someone else woes..
What is the go!!

Hi barramundi,

We sold our Aussie Swag earlier in the year and it took about 4 weeks.

I put on heaps of good photos and priced it well. Ours was a 2012 with gas hot water, two solar panels, Cooper ST Maxx tyres, side kids room, extra large kitchen top storage bag, full annex walls and we got $49,500 for it.

If people are coming to look but not going further, there is something they don't like. Does it look absolutely immaculate when they are viewing. I even took a toothbrush to my poles to get the dirt out of the grooves in them. Is it the price they don't like?  You will only find that out by asking questions like:

How long have you been looking for a camper for?
What is it about the Aussie Swags you like?
Have you priced a new one at all?
Where are you planning on travelling to?

Ask these questions in general conversation while they are having a look around it. From there you know if they are serious or not, and if so start to close with:

Are you happy with the condition of this camper?
Is it what you are looking for?
How soon are you looking to buy?

See how they answer those and if they respond positively then a final close would be: Sounds like all we need to do is agree on price and it can all be yours.

It's about asking the right questions and if they are leaving without committing find out why - that should set you up right for the next person.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks John and Catie, some very good tips there. Our camper is immaculate! and we think we have priced it right, however I think the market has changed over the past twelve months. there seems to be a lot more campers and caravans on the market in general.

Maybe they are thieves trying to suss out how secure the camper is!

When I sell stuff I always ask when they are coming to see it. I then say give me a call just before you leave and I'll give you my address. One person didn't like that idea and told me "don't worry about it them" and hung up, what reason would they say that???
