Hi,

New here and am browsing away trying to find info, hints and tips to buying for the first time.
Looking into getting a Jayco Swan.

Bit about us, I'm 34, the  mrs is 30 ,with 2 boys 4&2...
Been camping a few times, so we've got a bit of gear, but really want to get away for weekends more often, utilising RDO WEEKENDS. Won't be hitting the unbeaten track, mainly unpowered caravan sites and a few national park free camping grounds as we get more adventurous.

Will also be looking at getting a  2010ish dmax/Colorado 4*4 to tow with.

Not sure if this is the right place, but a few questions.
New or used for a first timer.?
Outback or standard?
What are the non negotiable so that people recommend.

I'm a Fridgie, so I'm pretty handy with the mods that would be needed after market style..

Would love to hear from anyone and everyone with tips, ideas , stories about what they had for their First camper.

Cheers in advance
Neil.

Hi Neil,

Welcome to the forum, great helpful bunch of people here. You might get a few more responses to your questions if you do a separate post for them with a title of the post that will catch the eye of people who can answer your questions. Haven't had any experience with the Jayco Swan so can't help with that.

As fas as new or used, often that depends on your budget, if you want something all setup with everything already included or add the mods yourself. Seeing you are pretty handy doing any mod yourself would be the way to go. Get it set up the way you want, or also know the job is done to your satisfaction.

Like most we started in a tent, upgrade to an old home made camping trailer we bought second hand. Had solid sides with the bed on top of that with the flip out canvas, can't even remember if it had a floor. In the solid wall section we stored our gear in there when travelling access was through a side door. The kids then slept in there top and tail and we slept on the bed on the top. Beaut first camper with young kids, have never seen one like it since.

We now have a hard floor Aussie Swag camper, can read more about it and us in the link below to our travel blog.

Great to doing some exploring with the kids while they are young.  :D

Welcome to the forum.  Can't go wrong with a Dmax (but I'm biased).

Happy camping

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum, there are plenty of Dmax owners on here, they seem to be pretty popular.  The swan is a good camper, new or old is really your decision, only you know what you can and can't afford.  There is plenty of info on here and there are plenty of people who can offer you advice and assistance.

Welcome to myswag Neil & Family.
Great to have you onboard.
Not a Jayco owner but plenty on here who are.

In terms of the 4by, both great options from what I've read.
