The two fridges in our camper (40L and 18L Waecos) have their lids removed and left off between trips, and stay in the camper.

The fridge in the Pajero stays in there all the time.

All fridges are only turned on when needed.

The evakool in the camper is cleaned and turned off and a small plastic container if bi-carb left inside with the lid closed - no dramas.

The arb in the Prado gets similar but we tend to run it on and off during the week depending on what we are doing.

I sometimes put a few drops of vanilla in the bottom but always keep a sunny roll in there. A removalist taught me that trick. Always put in a dunny roll befor closing, it absorves moisture.

This is going to sound strange but hang a new teabag inside it after you have cleaned it out.  Wife does this with all our eskies, the waeco and engel and even keeps a couple hanging in the kitchen fridge.  Stops odours..  Strange but true....
yes it works as well as a saucer of bi carb soda left sitting in the fridge

Once we got back from Australia Day holiday the fridge became a freezer in the lounge room for ice blocks so that it wasnt so far to walk to get one.

Now summer is over its been turned off and left open for a week to dry. It is now closed up with a teaspoon of vanila essence inside to remove any smells.

I cant see it being used in the next few months so it might end up at u-store-it with a whole pile of other stuff.

We have both of our two 40 litre Engels running 24/7.

One is full of soft drinks for the wife and kids and the other beer for me, strangely mine is empty more often and I seem to be always buying more beer to restock it?? Wired I know!!
