I'm buying a chainsaw and just wondering what you guys have or had used.

I will be looking at 2 brands, Stihl and Husqvarna. With a bar length around 40cm.

Mainly for cutting firewood, trees across tracks and home use.

Mate, I would look at a little smaller wrt the size blade.  I have a 12inch or 30cm McCullock (sp) and the larger you go the harder they are to store, even with the blade removed. Both brands that you have selected are very go and shouldn't be a problem.  IMHO, think about storage size.  My 12inch cut's through just about anything without issue.......

Don't forget POULON - they are Huskies but made in USA. I only found out by accident but yep that is also what I have ... I was told this by the HUSKY agent in Cairns

I wouldn`t go anything smaller than a 40 cm bar as if you cutting for firewood any smaller would be useless .

I got an Axe. A big Axe. none of those poofy chainsaws for me. I use the real men tool.

There all good brands I have the Poulon like Crazy Dogs and its been a great little weapon over the years.....but these days I hangout with guys that have there own Chainsaws.....and they just love to cut timber.....and I just love to enjoy there fires ...Good size is the 40cm blade you can cut down forests with these bad boys. Had a bit to do with Chainsaws over the years and I did my trade in the Simpson Forest !!

FWIW I have a 38cc 40cm bar Talon chainsaw. Have used it regularly over a 2 year period and it has started first time every time. I would have no hesitation in buying another if it went for a walk. Comes with its own hard case and for $200 represents decent value I reckon.

Had a Rhyobi (40cm) for the last 4 years, starts easy,goes well,no problems (so far)

i have an echo chainsaw and a echo weedeater, both have given faultless service for about 7 years, i also have a sthil blower / vac and it is a piece of s#*t, i would have no hesitation in buying another echo.

yep,go the echo matee,have had mine for 8 years and still starts easy and she has cut a hell of a lot of wood over the time

I brought a Husqvarna 340



It is a nice weight and the storage box fits into the camper perfect.

Serious now though the huskies are a bloody good unit and super relable . What did you pay for it Brett ? Where did you get it from ?

Hey Brett,

The Huskies are supposed to be a good bit of gear. One thing i have heard of them is that they have some rubber mounts that need replacing every two years or so. I was told this by two separate sources one a husky dealer. No major problem just thought I would give you the heads up.

I will be buying an Oleo Mac chainsaw this week

There are threads and webpages with shonky copies from alibaba on google... they are just a middle man between you and the seller. Most of the stuff they sell is from Copy city .. err China.

few on alibaba's own forums. also google aliexpress and their 'problem resolution'....

the dodgy fuel mixing bottle and the cheap orange tool pouch give em away,

the ms 070 he sold recently havnt been made by stihl for years, and with no chain brake is illegal for sale in AUS anyway.

they range from $300 landed from china.

if i wanted to save money on a stihl i would get one shipped from the US from a trusted friend/accociate, as stihl dealers in the US wont export as it risks losing dealership rights.

theres nothing against using a 3rd partys however to buy and dispatch on your behalf.

and then you could get a genuine current range stilhl like a ms261 for about$ 715 aud landed.

if you wanted a knock up you could get one from china yourself for less but at least you wouldnt be under any illusion you were getting a genuine.

that guy is flogging em as genuine and starting em at $600.

try running one of these knockups at 50:1 fuel mix as stihl recommends rather than 25:1 that the chinesse links suggest and just see how long the P%C hold up.

ahhhh... evilBay.....the world would be sooooooo boring without it.......

Personally i prefer Stihl, but Huskies are pretty good. They used to be crap 20 yrs ago, big heavy things, they are now on a par with zee Germans. The guy who runs the Chainsaw course we sen dour people to used to be a Stihl Man and now uses exclusivley Huski. Reckons as good to use and maintain, cheaper to buy: How can you beat that? My little 026 with 16" bar is 12yrs old and going strong. Come to think of it, Its time for a new bar and chain..........Memo to self befoer the next trip

Actually they didn't fool me at all as I never looked, I was merely pointing out, that you are claiming the saws a person on Ebay is selling, are fakes, without any information to back up that claim.

Now you have posted your reasons why you believe them to be fakes, folks can make up their own mind and go from there. I apologise if I offended, but without all the relevant information how can anyone make an informed decision.
