Hello to the MYSWAG community.  I have gained a huge amount of information since discovering the forum and would like to say hello and thanks , We are a family of Mum , Dad & 6 year old daughter about to move from years of tent camping to a camper trailer for the first time. After lots of research we are headed towards  an Ultimate Camper. We have done some wonderful trips to inland Queensland and the sand islands of Moreton Bay  over the years and love the thought of  returning in a camper. Many of the questions I would have asked have been covered by others but I would  love any feedback on a couple of issues regarding this massive investment in the next years of our travels (we have had our OZTent for 7 years so who knows how long we will keep the Ultimate?) .  Regards Ian

Welcome to the Forum Ian.
Might be just as well you bought the Ultimate.
It is built by Boat Builders after all.
You might just need a boat in Queensland about now, for a while too.

Welcome aboard Ian.  There is another Ian on here - ian_baker58 - who I'm sure would be more than  willing to share info on Ultimate Campers and answer any questions you may have > he has been more than helpful to me in the past on a couple of battery charging issues when not obligated at all.

Welcome Ian.

Ultimates are a fantastic camper, I have never met an unhappy owner. I am a little bit bias, and am getting mine out today in prep for next weekend away.  Happy to help with any issues/questions if I can. Since you are in Brisbane if you need to look over one again, I am happy for you to come look at mine if need be.

Thanks for the welcomes. When I registered Ian Mac was taken so went for middle name Don so happy to answer to both . Is it preferable to start another thread in General Technical with any questions (as doesn't feel right in My Camper until I part with my deposit) ?. I would love to hear back from Ultimate owners but all input welcomed. Oldmate Ultimate put me in contact with a local owner "Max" and I dropped around during the week. His feedback and generous sharing of his time was a huge help so I would be happy to have another look if the chance arose ?. I love getting camping feedback in general and hopefully applying some of the ideas . We plan to buy in a couple of months but Ultimate are putting the pressure on lol. We got a quick look at the Qld 4wd and Fishing show recently but  spent more time looking at the  Complete Campsite Uluru our friends are looking at buying . Now that is a camper with everything you could ever want from boat loader to bike racks and the list goes on. We love the light weight and fast setup of the Ultimate and figure we can mooch off their facilities when camping (only joking). Cheers Ian

Yes I know mr burrows  ;D, he is well known on the owners forum, a very passionate owner, and a nice bloke at that, for a Toyota driver ;D ;D.

We have a 2012 xtrk that we bought new.  Have a search around on here there is a few threads on them now in which myself, Ian-baker and few other owners have commented on also. As far as us, we love it, I can't fault it, it is perfect for us, and the weight was one of the main reasons we got it also. If you have anything in particular you want to ask, fire away.
Are you looking at the xtrk or xplor?

Our current tow will be our Landrover Discovery 3 . This is our 3rd Discovery and we love it but I will be honest and say I am not sure I am willing to buy another. They are amazing off road but like all European cars the cost of parts is crazy. This is leading to the question of wheel matching . Any idea if we can  change the standard Ultimate 16inch wheels to match later on when we replace the Disco?. Apologies to Toyota haters but a Prado is probably the way we will go if this is our  last Landrover. We are looking at the Ultimate Xplor but will be limited in options we can afford. My wife has crossed the fusion system off my list and the outside cooking galley when she realized it is an extra (we have a stove and fold up table) . We will probably take the kids room and the original awning. If anyone has positive feedback on the new wraparound I would love to hear but we wanted to have the option of walls in stormy weather?. I would like feedback on the option of the extended drawbar ?. Do most people with the rear mount wheel take the option or can you still access the back with the shorter bar (or just work around it)?. I am not skilled in towing and wondered how much of an advantage the longer drawbar is ?. What are the down side to the longer bar ?. I would guess some extra weight , reduced ramp over , and of course extra cost?. Regards Ian

As far as I know ultimate will match wheels. We got ours match for the patrol. I quick call to them would confirm that.

I wouldn't be concerned about the fusion, for the money you could get a better system and add it yourself later.

We didn't have an option of their "outdoor kitchen" described loosely, but we just use stove and table, which has multiple uses and can be moved anywhere around the camp as needed.

We got a main awning, but no walls, and haven't had the need for them, just go inside if that bad, but it is only 2 of us 99.9% of the time

We have a std drawbar and I find it ok, but I have being reversing trailers since I was young or younger  ;D  we have a spare on the back of our car and it doesn't foul on trailer, but I think it is more of an issue with the wagons that have 1 large door that swings open.
