Problem with Teshonka Primus IQ brake controller
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:52:10 AM »
Hi All

I have the above controller fitted to my 150V6 Prado which has been working fine for the last 6mths/10k klm's.
Approx a week ago whilst driving the controller went from working fine to showing N.C. whilst the trailer was still connected. It then found the trailer again and lost connection and carried on like this until we stopped and now the controller always shows NC, trailer connected or not.

The weird thing is that when I now start the car the controller shows a trailer connection for about 10sec before reverting back to NC.

I've googled brake controller issues and there are a number of troubleshooting papers on the NC however I can't see any mention of the phantom reading of a trailer connected.

I did have the trailer lights replaced to SCA LED's about 10 days before this started happening, and I have replaced the trailer 7 pin plug in trying to resolve the issue.

Has anyone either had or heard about the same issue.

Thanks

Trev

Sounds like a bad connection or possibly a broken wire somewhere.  I'd be checking all the wires and maybe doing a continuity test on each.  Double check the trailer plugs and check the earth points.  I would and it's only a guess say the controller is still ok.  If say new leds have been fitted double check their operation and connections too.  The way you explained the flickering then failing sounds like wiring or connection failure for sure.

Thx guys - jayco bayswater was kind enough to lend me another BC this morning but still same issue so I am now booked into Boronia AutoElec this PM to have them look at it.
Very frustrating when stuff stops working and is outside my comfort zone/skill set to fix!

All sorted now - it was an earth problem on the trailer side - well done to Phil and Corey at Boronia AutoElec in sorting it out in a timely and cost effective manner.

Thanks swaggers for your feedback.
