Grant110 saying g'day
« on: April 01, 2014, 01:16:46 PM »
Thought id introduce myself before i have to start asking endless questions and asking for advice.
Currently living in the Kimberley (Broome) Western Australia but am looking to buy a camper and quit work and travel for as long as i can afford it with the other half and the dog.

Just upgraded my old faithful XJ of many years and many miles and many dirt tracks for a newer bigger GU Patrol, slowly modifying that with drawers, racks, battery/solar and so on.

Budgets going to be tight for a camper so odds are it will be a chinese import - read a lot of the reviews on here - more bad than good but risk i spose im willing and have to take!!

Welcome Grant, must have been hard to give up the XJ (old faithful), but the GU's are a tough unit. Hope you get to make the most of your trips.

Welcome sounds like you will be soon living the dream in regards to camper purchase what about second hand if there is not much in WA perhaps tent or swag part of your trip if to purchase at a later date/stage in the journey.  This might not be an option but if it was would give you a chance to look at what is around are you planning on picking up work along the way as well.  I hope we will get to go on an extended trip one day but I don't want to get rid of my horses to do it.

Welcome to MySwag, your travel plans sound great, I wish I could pull up stumps and hit the road. Good luck on the camper, so many to choose from, I think a great looking trackabout just hit the classified section over in WA somewhere, worth a look

Welcome aboard mate,,, heaps of info on here and good advice is free..  :cup:
you can even learn how to do mods to your CT, I learnt how to fit a bottle opener to mine  ;D
if your budget will only stretch to a Chinese camper, then go for it... just give it a good going over to make sure it will do what YOU want it to do ! No need to keep up with the Jones's just yet...  ;D

Hi Grant, look at some of the 2nd hand aussie built campers. You can get a lot for your dollar if you keep your eyes open for a good used one,i looked at the new chinese made tents and then settled on a used camper. Even after i make some upgrades ours will only owe us around $2500.

Sooo - every single camper  i look at (yes looking at Chinese) has terrible reviews with a few good reviews thrown in - are there any GOOD campers for under $20k - ideally new.  Problem is i dont have the option of going and looking at them in workshops and sales yards as i live in the middle of nowhere - 2400km from Perth, 2000 from Darwin and more to everywhere else!!

You live in Broome!!  You dont need to go away!  You are already in paradise, an uncle and aunty lived there for many years.
Don't complain! It could be worse, you could be six foot under or a brick of ashes!!

Broome sadly isnt all its cracked up to be - 6 months of the year you cant swim on the beach due to dead;y jellyfish and warm water, the other 6 it is overcrowded and when raining there really isnt that much to do here!!

Missus wants hard floor and we are looking at extended travel  -12 months plus around Oz
