Anyone else get attached to their cars?
« on: March 12, 2014, 05:53:07 PM »
We, as a family, name our vehicles, and they become part of the family.

They take us to work, school, shops, visiting family and friends etc... and most importantly, they go on adventures with us… or in our case, Misadventures  >:D

I only pose this question because on the weekend, our beloved Land Rover Defender 'Monty' had a very big misadventure and is no more :'(

After our troubles with Land Rover Australia during our Cape York trip, my hubby threatened to sell both of our Land Rovers and I almost cried.

Now that Monty has officially been written off, we've been surprised at just how emotional we've been.

We'd grown very fond of her, and I was curious as to whether there were others out there that had grown attached to their vehicles too, or whether we were just freaks  ???

Would love to hear your thoughts

Cheers

What happened to Monty?

And not any more, I used to once upon a time. Now they are tin and rubber and tools to get me from a to b.
But I do admit I am fond of my old Patrol :)

Yes I'm afraid that's how it is for me, their pain is my pain and they always need to be tucked in at night.
Funny the only ones I never got emotional about was my enduro bikes, they were there to thrash to the limit and beyond!

My daughter names her cars - her first learner car was a nissan pulsar - it is known as PENNY PULSAR.

She just purchased her own first car - a Suzuki Swift, she caller her TAYLOR - could not stop laughing at that one!

My new work car is a prius - I call it BUZZ

I do, I love "Frank the Tank". I have owned many cars worth 6-7 times more and even brand new cars but I really enjoy driving the old bus

Karen,

Sorry to hear your unfortunate news, our clan did 300,000 Km's in our 300 tdi Disco and she was sorely missed when she was retired :'(

We now have the commute car, a white Suzuki Swift named by the kids as "Buggy" and the weekend adventure truck, a Mitsubishi Triton named T Rex. Both are part of the family. T Rex really has character, his front seats are terrible, as is his radio reception away from town, he refuses to acknowledge these issues but we are working on it, softly , softly we go!

He had taken us to Fraser Island and the Vic High Country several times all towing or Trackabout Safari, "Mrs T". They have a lovely relationship which suits our family just fine! Karen, there will be those that disagree with us, they will talk rubbish, words such as inanimate object and even "just transport" will be thrown about. To them we say :-*, as ours is a higher form of love!

Cheers,

Disco teddy.

Hmmm I was going to try to deny this... I do refer to my Troll, as "the pretty blue truck"... My wife is pretty sure I am more in love with it than I am with her... She plans to bury me in it.. Some days I wonder if she will wait till I die of natural causes....
I have sort of nicknamed my new Challenger "the white shopping trolley"...
So I suppose I do get a bit attached to my vehicles...
I won't tell you that when I got the Patrol, it took me over 12 months to sell the Hilux it replaced.. Advertised it.. Cause SWMBO said I had to..... But if anyone came and looked at it.. Said one negative thing... I told them they can't buy it....
But no... I don't think I get attached to my vehicles... ;)
Always give 100%... Unless you are giving blood.. then it may not go so well...

Yep love my cars that much I've been known to go to extremes to keep them. SWMBO wanted me to sell my comp truck years ago so I stripped her down (the truck)  and had the body at a mates to keep it out of her eyes. Sadly I rebuilt her after I beat cancer in the order of buying my R33 GTR....yes now 2 GTRs and both of which SWMBO wanted sold around a year or 2 ago....well I put it on my signature on here ???? but I hide them in a storage locker to keep them from her eyes....till rego time comes each year and she starts again.
Legally I can't put SWMBO on eBay or Gumtree ????

2000 twin cab diesel Hilux.  Base, model, appliance white, slow (non turbo), crap articulation, bumpy, noisy, etc.
Owned since it was 18 months old, covered more than  270K in it.  It's been my work truck (chippie), spent almost every weekend in the first two years doing 4wd trips with the boys, it was our home for 4 months while we traveled Australia, it transported my first born home from the hospital and now is relegated to a daily driver to and from work with no real 4wd action in the last 4 years.

An LN167 a bit of a boring car and not that good a 4wd, but I'm so attached to it.  My partners told me to sell it, but its worth nothing and even with 300+ k's, it would be hard to find another 2nd hand car that would be as reliable as this old girl.

My mates call it the Slugger, not cause it's like a boxer that punches above its weight, but because it moves as fast as a slug!

Yer I think most get attached to there wheels, ive had 4wds most of my life and given the fun they provide you and the family, I think naming them and looking after them is what we do.

The most fun any truck provided me would have been a Toyota forerunner a model around the late 80s I think. Me and my mates use to flog the guts out of it 4wd and touring all thru NQLD, it was brilliant, when I busted it, id fix her up and off we would go again, I had that car for ages, and ended up selling it to a mate who had it for some time also.

My latest veh is near and dear to me also, I took my Dad, who recently passed away, up thru Corner Country, and across the Simo in it, so have some fond memories already with it, I have also taken the family on our camping and annual touring trips, so its fast given us plenty of good times.

I have invested some $$$ into setting her up and its now starting to take shape into a great family tourer.

Regards Swanny

I am somewhat attached to the Prado, however I really regret selling my first German. She was the last of that shape, up spec'd with the TT engine, full mechanical quattro and used to fly.

I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

Work - Outback  SOLD
Play - Prado

When I was young.

I love VW's but lord I hate the stupid naming of them.  Everytime one comes up for sale its "Betty is a member of our family and we are so sad to see her go".

Makes me want to vomit.
