Stay with me here folks :)

My wife isn't quite ready to camp somewhere without toilets and showers so we've always been places with facilities. 

So I'm looking at options to change that  ... Obviously it involves a porta loo, 12V shower and hot water.

I got to thinking ... Rather than muck around with pop up ensuites etc what about using a compact gazebo? The 2.4m x 2.4m one would sit nicely adjacent to the drawbar side door (back door) of our camper.  3x wall kits, portaloo in one corner, shower in the other hung off the frame off the gazebo, and bucket of warm water to draw from ...

Gives plenty of "private" space and easy to setup. Thoughts?

Only issue is maybe how to stop the ground in it getting muddy etc where the shower is.

We have water tank on the camper so that's not an issue.

We use a duel shower/crapper pop up tent, with a bit of shadecloth under it for when we are on Fraser.

Works a treat, lots of room etc.

Just watch for splash back when ya empty ya porta pooper and don't use ya BBQ apron like I did.

The dual units would work fine, a bit quicker than a gazebo.

Shower flooring?

We had one of these and sold it with the CC. Great unit, toilet went in the small part and didn't get wet from the shower, do yourself a favour and look at the country comfort style LPG hot water, you won't look back....

I could not get that oztrail link to open for me but we have an oztrail twin ensuite but have only used it for the shower part both sides have clip in material type floors one side to shower dry side with clothes etc to dress.  Toilet is jimmy's thunderbox and dig a hole in the ground so we have a separate tent for that eventually would like a quicker set up tent for that part.  If we only go for a couple of nights shower tent doesn't go up last time was a bucket and soap whilst still had bathers on before changing for bed.  I love camping though and will dig the hole for the toilet where I can as the other half doesn't want to empty porta loo and I don't think I would be able to so this set up suits us. 

Regarding your shower gazebo set up you would want to make sure you check the ground you are on wouldn't want the shower water running back to the camper.  For heating water we used to use our coleman HWOD but since we bought the ozpig the coleman has not been back in the camper just heat water then fill bucket and use 12v shower we just park the car near shower tent perhaps one day this will also have it's own battery set up.

Hi,
  we use a popup tent and  the foam clip together mats, well one of the mats with the tags cut off so it fits where I want to store it when travelling.


All was good till a toe got bitten by an annoyed jack jumper, so Mrs started using a basin to stand in as well. No more ant bites (so far) but I nearly went A over T as my feet don't fit in it very well.


Hmmm! what is big enough for my feet, and we normally carry, and will still keep Mrs happy.

It holds enough water to give the feet a good soaking, and can be emptied away from the camping area.

We use two of those instant shower tents, really quick to setup and pack away.

We have a camper that has a diesel hot water system and shower with it's own pump. For this reason, we have the shower tent close to the camper.

The dunny tent with Porta Potti, can be placed further away for a bit of privacy.

We also have an Oztrail twin ensuite that we use for portapotti and shower. Just make sure you pick the lower side for the shower or you will be potentially toiletting in a muddy puddle. Could always dig a trench to divert some water if it was very flat ground. We also use the black foam mats with holes in them for the base of the shower so your feet stay clean, and we usually set up a path with them back to the tent... About 5 metres away seems like a good distance. Not too close for water to seep and not too far for a quick dash inside ;)  We initially got a 12v/battery shower head that you plunge the pump into a bucket but found the head gets clogged with grit from the river water and they stop working fairly often so we now just use a huge (approx 600ml) plastic cup to pour the water over ourselves - started as an emergency fix but works so we haven't bothered with anything else since.
As far as heating the water, we use a Hillbilly "hot water service" for all our water heating - dishes, showers, hot water bottles, etc. Everything except for drinking and cooking. Low initial outlay and zero running costs. Heats 20L to almost boiling point next to the fire and you can't run it dry because you have to put more in to get any out (unless you tilt it a bit and cheat).
Our setup works fine for all 3 females (plus hubby).

This was the standard plumbing in the 3 houses we rented whilst in Malaysia for a few years.

Had the mud thing under control on our red centre trip.
The ladies were not happy so we found an old pine pallet round the back of the Birdsville hotel and dragged the thing around the remaking 5000 km on top of the camper. I think we finally let go of it near Sapphire on the last leg of the journey!

Maybe there was an easier way...

We just use a single pop up ensuite with four of the click together rubber mats.  Toilet sits off to one side whilst showering and acts as a shelf for the bucket of warm shower water. Finish showering and the loo gets moved back to the centre.  The porta potti is all plastic and is OK to get wet  ;D ;D

Take a drive up to Caloundra and visit AOR.  Have a look at the Quantum.  They're exie but will probably last you a lifetime.   :cheers:

Thanks all for the the thoughts.  I had thought of the interlocking mats as the "floor" but maybe a deep floor mat is an idea.  Or maybe something like these: http://www.infrontcampinggear.com.au/category85_1.htm

As for the actual enclosure ... I might go and check out a few in person.  I'm pretty tall (2m) and always find those enclosures aren't high enough for me too.

And TOPNDR ... the Qauntum is well out of our price range and is fiddly with kids.

That shower base might be a worth a look if there was a fitting you could connect a hose to and run/pump the water away from camper. Saying that we have never had a real problem with water running into camp, would dig a little diversion trench is needed.
I found those interlocking mats slippery when wet, 1 am 192cm and a solid unit and have no trouble in the oztrail but I use the shower as a hand held rather than standing under it at wasting water..
