Sunset Campers - Opinions?
« on: September 08, 2009, 10:20:40 AM »
G'day all,

I was at Sunset Campers' Ballarat factory on the weekend, and I liked what I saw.

Does anyone have any opinions - good, bad, or indifferent - on Sunset Campers?

Its always difficult to tell the true quality from a website but they do seem to tick a lot of boxes..!

The tent is the same as used in Lifestyle campers which I can tell you is one of the best on the market.  The trailer base looks similar in design to Camel or Trackabout so again you're on a winner there.

Definately worth a look.

I hired a Sunset camper for the long weekend when I was looking around to purchase.

Nothing wrong with them, only complaint we had was that the dark brown canvas they use heats ups in the sun very quickly.

But all aspects of the unit were top notch and the unit we were in had nearly covered 40,000km of outback travel.

I maybe missing something but the canvas they have is grey and burgandy. They seem to be a well thought out camper

Well, yesterday arvo he was gallivanting about with his distant cousins in the neighbours' yard.... Pics to follow.

He still hasn't made it to the snow... because we didn't manage to get a weekend free with snow.

However, he's currently in negotiations for a snow trip.... I'll let you know how it pans out....

Cheers,

This camper hasn't let us down. All Australian made trailer and 15oz canvas all round roof and walls Wax converters tent. It enjoys most of the usual off road compliments and was Sunsets top of the range model 2 years ago. We were after a local manufacturer for possible warranty repairs but to date no warranty claims. With triple drawbar 75x50 and subframe comprising a combination of 75x50 and 50x50 rhs with at least 6 crossmembers it has a very strong frame serving us well in the local 4x4x club we are members with. Too many purchasers I think are looking for bling and ignore a strong frame. We inspected before purchase and all welds and joins were top notch. It has little to go wrong being a very basic layout. Your usual 7x4 Zincalume box section with at least 500mm sides double pressed for strength, 10 inch off road electric brakes, handbrake, DO35 hitch ( this is fantastic) heavy duty checkerplate guards, 45mm square axle with Alko 7 leaf eye to eye rebound springs. The tent section canvas is grey and burdundy. It has been great for lazy morning sleep ins letting in little light unlike previous campers we have owned with light coloured roofs. We went with a basic steel tailgate kitchen but are in the process of upgrading to a Drifta.

Ring Sharelle at  http://www.wimmeracampertrailerhire.com.au/ they have been hiring out Sunset Campers for the past 3 years and will give you an honest opinion on them. You could even hire one to TRY before you BUY.

No affiliation with either
