Foreign Slaves taking our jobs?
« on: March 07, 2014, 04:14:29 AM »
Did anyone see the 7:30 report last night, 6 march?
http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/7-30/NC1405H042S00

If what was shown was true, that is bad for us all, really bad.
We have lost 5,000 jobs to the Koreans in the car game, now cheap foreign workers are taking these types of jobs when there are many Aussies out of work who can or should be doing it.
I remember not long ago something similar on the Telle about guys putting up shelving units for the IGA distribution center being built were all from Eastern Europe some where and being treated badly, yet 2 suburbs away is a company that can do the exact same work who pay wages etc correctly.

I have seen it myself in my job, foreign guys being got in, yet they didn't have the same experience, training or skill set us heaps of Aussie lads I know who were all sitting at home.
What can we do, what can I do?
If I send an email to a Politician, well, you know the rubbish I will get back.
This can not be sustained, as it seems to be on the Telle a lot, and I don't exactly watch it every day either..

It's been going on for years.
10+ years ago in IT I was called on a weekend by the owner, told to accept a pay cut or get fired.

Told him to F-off, so they fired me, brought in a guy from O/Seas at 1/2 the price.

Then they had troubles getting his 457 visa sorted so had to ask me to stay on another week or so.

Whenhe was finally in Aus and i was gone they couldn't understand why, after that had fired me, that when they called with questions I wouldn't answer them.

It had a happy ending, company went bankrupt about 6-9 months after I was put off.
They did it all themselves, I just laughed from the sidelines.

A couple of years ago a friend on my son applied for a job at a well known southern  abattoir, as a meat worker. He had worked for some years doing this as well he has done his trade as a butcher. He was told to come down for the interview, which he did, only to be told when he got there, they had no jobs going.
The very next week I saw on the news they had applied to have oversees workers, and they claimed the they could not get Australians to work for them.  ??? >:(

Just as a side note, Are you aware that IGA has been bought out by a South African mob? Bet that's not how the Locals Like It.
At this rate it shouldn't be long before Australia owns nothing. Soon we will be importing beef.  :-[

I thought IGA had been "owned" by a South African company for a while, so I just did a quick google search -

http://www.metcash.com/about-metcash/our-businesses/metcash-food-and-grocery

and

Quote
On 4 September 2000, Metcash Trading Limited (Metcash) became the official company name replacing Davids Limited.   The name acknowledges the pivotal role South African owned Metro Cash & Carry (a majority shareholder from 2000-2004) in the strategic direction of the company.

It's Metcash that owns the distribution warehouses.

The shops are frequently independently owned.

Metcash also allow the shops freedom to buy direct from a supplier, from a supplier billed through Metcash, or from Metcash (so the business/suppliers that I talk to tell me).

Don't insist on a supplie making the range nationally available, or that each shop has to stock every item.

In out house "we shop where the locals shop", eithere IGA or SupaBarn (ACT/Sydney) then Aldi, and rarely do Coles or Woolworths.

That 7.30 Report said there were 20,000 Taiwanese backpackers in Australia. Yes, 20,000!
I'd love to know just how strict the checks are on how many actually ever go home.
It helps explain why EVERY small stall at WA shopping centres (selling phone covers, DVDs etc) are Chinese-manned.
Tourist visas, my arse.
Chinese are being allowed (indeed, encouraged) to buy houses here, driving up prices to the point where locals don't stand a bloody chance of getting into the market.
Chinese are being allowed (indeed, encouraged by Governments) to buy Australian farms and grazing land. And have a guess where ALL the produce of that land will be going?
I may not be able to post much in future, because I'll be busy at my Mandarin classes.

Sadly, Tony

I watched that program.  I thought they said that the 'backpackers' all had work visas?   The reporters seemed to be very careful to never mention that anything was actually 'illegal'.  So there isn't much anyone can do about it in the short term.  These workers must at least be getting the minimum wage or the employers (the employment agency) and the companies would all be in a world of legal hurt.

We can't have it both ways fellas.  We all want to be paid a milion bucks a week, but want our products at the minimum possible price.

Well Said, as someone who has worked in Bangladesh, and seen the ship braking yards where there is a work place death rate (at the time) of 1.2 per day (yes, the average is 1.2 killed each day, not sure of injury spastics.). I tend to have a small attitude to the folk here in Aus in my industry who go on strike due to the pillows they have been issued with.

There are many things we have done to ourselves, but a lot of it can be stopped by the government, which will greatly help us all.

You'd be astonished by just how many 'Aussie' companies are actually SA-owned. Those guys are pretty ruthless when it comes to making a buck, and they've been not so much riding on the coat-tails of Australian companies as having the smarts to pick up what they can, when they can.

SA to most people is just a tourist attraction, or a place to feel bad about when they see footage/pics of the place - but it is in reality one of the economic powerhouses of the world economy... and it will only grow in that capacity.

Honestly Muz, I'd be shocked if there was any large companies Aussie owned left. Been to a service petrol station lately and found someone not of Indian decent.

That's why they cant get rid of the *aussie made* rubbish.. The lemmings are too powerful to force the Gov to remove it.

So what your all saying is,
We've priced ourselves out of  the  market.
Our own Leisure time is more important than any time spent working.
We don't work to get leisure time, we work to make up for time off.
We look down on filthy jobs as unacceptable and we might get dirty.

There are many things we have done to ourselves, but a lot of it can be stopped by the government, which will greatly help us all.

And if any government had the balls to make the required changes they would be voted out faster than you can blink.

Modern governments aren't very good at dishing out 'tough love' for the greater good of the country because politics is a popularity contest, and you don't get too popular taking the candy away.
