Which Camper

Hey Guys and Girls,

Im a newby to the site, and not 100% sure if this topic is in the correct section.

My wife and myself are looking at purchasing our first camper to start taking the kids away for weekends and holidays (kids are 5 and 2) to caravan parks and parks etc etc (not much offroad).
We do have a budget of around the $7500 mark, and would prefer to buy new. We don't need all the luxuries as we are just starting out, but something sturdy and reliable.
Weve had a look at the Skamper Campers and also the MDC campers.
Would love some feedback on these campers, or other campers that people would recommend in this price range etc.

Any feedback would be muchly appreciated

Hi Chad,

Welcome to the forum - Post Number 1!!

There is heaps of info on here and people will chime in on their opinions of either buying new or getting yourself a good quality second hand Aussie built one.  Personally I feel it comes down to how handy you are with the tools.  If you're like me and not handy, then I'd be going the latter.

Mate the choice is endless,if your young & fit a soft floor is cheaper $ has more storage .
A hard floor is easier to set up but may cost more. You need to look at a lot and see what may suit.

I think the MDC Tbox has a bit more to offer than the Scamper. Best thing is to drive down to Sydney and have a close inspection of both. Good luck.

There is a 2009 outback nepean camper on eBay.
Starting price of 5k including awning and annex walls is pretty darn cheap.
Its in Gippsland, so not an impossible distance. Would leave plenty of money in the kitty for any extras you may want?
Are there any must haves you want in a camper?

Cheers boys,

Evo, no major must haves, just starting out, so will prob add to the CT as we progress into it more. Obviously more for the $, but something that is reliable and honest.
Been doing a fair bit of research into different brands, and each have their pros and cons, and everyone has postives and negetives about different brands.

Fair enough mate. IMO its hard to go past a good second hand Aussie camper.
I'm obviously not talking about one that falling apart, but the outbacks are a really good quality unit.
They are made locally to me and there are a few on this forum that have them.

It depends on what you want I guess, My biggest suggestion is whatever your budget is, allow a grand or so for things you may need or changes you need to make to suit you.

These are an excellent aussie built trailer, little bit more than your budget but not by much. They have an agent in NSW.
