Atkinson Dam Cabins and Foreshore Camping to CLOSE!!
« on: February 16, 2014, 04:33:25 PM »
Hi to All,
I seen a segment on the news last night, where the Atkinson Dam Cabins and Foreshore Camping is getting closed down by SEQ Water, the operators of the dam. The current lease holders have a lease until June 30th this year, however SEQW want the site vacated in the next few of weeks. This of course means the site will be closed before EASTER leaving many campers with no where to go. Chances also of finding a site else where so close to Easter are slim to none. The lease holders have begged with SEQ Water to allow them to operate until after Easter but this was met with a resounding NO!.  It seems SEQ Water want to open the area up so the general public can better use the boat ramp. Something doesn't seem right and there are many an unhappy camper.

I saw that on the news as well..
It's a pretty bad by SEQW to ask them to leave before there lease is up.. I feel sorry for all those family's that are stranded and looking for somewhere to go for Easter..

They have probably breached the lease terms.

The operation is not getting good reviews on their facebook site.

When I went to Uni at Gatton, the Laidley Bogans used to frequent the east bank where the boat ramp was is and everyone else used to sneak in to the western side through the vacant rural res subdivision and camp there.

Thats a bloody long time ago though.....The Forrest Hill Pub was on the XXXX ad in my first year of Uni............and no management or authority anywhere except for the occasional copper do his rounds.

Interesting read

http://www.gattonstar.com.au/news/future-bleak-for-dam-park/1840775/

Only been there 1 time for a day visit but I would say they had well over 100 different groups all over the place where it looks like they were approved for 42 caravan sites and eight camp sites.

Speaking with the people we visited they said it was a quiet year as the dam was full, the emptier it was the more room they had and the more bookings they took.

Shame as it was a good day visit.

Hi Guys,
The one we are talking about here is The Atkinson Dam Cabin Village and Shoreline Camping and is located at 381 Atkinson Dam Road Atkinson's Dam. The park has 81 tourist sites. There is also the Atkinson Dam Waterfront Caravan Park, 545 Atkinson Dam Road, this is the one that is featured in the link posted by Kiwijohn and it certainly doesn't feature well on other forums. What is also a concern, is that the lease doesn't seem to be worth the paper it's written on. Although this aired Saturday night, I can't seem to find any further info on the whole matter. A written statement from SEQ Water would certainly help at this point.
