Just use pushbike brake cable for the cutting stuff on the wipper snipper... it doesn't break every 8ft.

here's a tip for your whipper snipper chord...........leave it submerged in water. will keep it soft & more pliable instead of it becoming hard & brittle  8)

Would love to but timing is wrong. It fits in with what we do at work & the eldest daughter lives down there. (I think it was the time I dropped her on her head when she young made her crazy enough to want to live down there ;D )

I have thought of stainless steel cable in the past but was concerned about the ends fraying and having SS shrapnel flying around. Do you use any treatment to prevent that or does it not happen enough to be concerned?
Cheers

I used to use it. Had a large cable eye terminal full of solder that I'd sit in the vice and heat with a gas torch, then dip the end of cable in the solder. If you don't solder it, it'll look like spaghetti in seconds. It was in an ally head that took only a single strand of cord. BIL tried it in his plastic auto feed head and killed it within minutes  ;D

Haven't used it for years now though, not worth the effort IMHO  :D

That was my other concern. My brushcutter has a Littl Juey nylon head that the base screws off and you stick in two cut to length pieces of nylon string. The big trouble is when it is tightened a bit too hard it just cuts the whole strings off. Steel cable would fix that but may slice the head to pieces.
Cheers
