MX8 pool cleaner review
« on: February 03, 2014, 03:00:09 PM »
ok swaggers,

about 3 mths ago I needed a new pool cleaner, being the budget concious person I am I opted for the $399  Zodiac T3.

well it was a good cleaner  but it kept getting stuck on the same step every single day, it drove us mad, we tried more weights , moving the weights , adjusting hose length , adjusting pressure ect ect ect.

Then as fate would have it our chlorination unit decided it wanted to be Chinese and Italian and started to display foreign languages and stopped producing chlorine, So I was not very happy with the service from the pool shop i bought the T3 cleaner from so i did not want to call them for the new chlorinate unit . So my wife says leave it to me...

She calls a pool shop and says yep they will be out here tomorrow $960 for the new unit, I google and find unit at $800.00 but hey I want service from a real business I want it fitted warranty all good and 3 years parts and labour, which i later find out that Zodiac do not have offer warranty on items bought online as their instruction manual calls for fitments by a trained pool technician and zodiac accredited installer. (in the fine print).

So anyway out come these very prompt and helpful people, I was happy then i found out it was the same shop as i had dealt with before >:D >:D, but they have just bought it from previous owner ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D (who had be giving me the run around for 3 mths with the T3).

So when they came they noted the T3 getting stuck, The guy turns around and says, you paid $399 for that right from our shop (before he bought) I say yes , he says you need the MX8 with your shape pool , they are on special for $600 after cash back, I say wow if I knew that 3 mths ago I would have just bought that , he says Give me the old one back and $200 and I will give you the MX8 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So after 3 mths he gives me a 100% refund towards the better unit  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So I now have the MX8 and if you are looking for a new pool cleaner honestly spend the extra $200 on this our pool has never been so clean.

And a  :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: for BRIBE POOL AND SPA shop  for excellent customer service .  Our pool is now  :cup: :cup: and their prices are very very competitive .

Just thought it might help someone who is trying to justify the extra $$$ for the MX8 it is well worth it .

Yep had the same issue with my Zodiac, did a good job cleaning but kept on getting stuck on a step. Did the same thing as you and played with the suction, weights and lengths to no avail. Then one day the kids had screwed the little nozzle off the solar outlets which was near the step where it was getting stuck. When I screwed the nozzle back on the jet was shooting towards the hose of the Zodiac, and pushing it away from the step so problem solved :) I just left the jet pointed there and no probs since :cup:
That was a few years ago and it's seen its days. If the time comes to replace it Ill check out the  MX8

What can I say the MX8 is a brilliant cleaner. I have had just about every other type of suction cleaner but for a job well done the MX8 wins hands down. Have had ours for 30 months now and its only downfall is every six months I have had to have it repaired because one of the Direction Control Devices malfunctions. Always been fixed under warranty. In fact 12 months ago I got a complete new head.  In fact it is in being fixed again at present and again under warranty. The cleaner lives in the pool never coming out and runs for 6 hours a day every day. Would I buy another one, you bet I would even with the constant repairs it is still the best cleaner I have used. When they stop fixing it under warranty I will just bring the parts in from the states and fix it myself. Plenty of videos on how to fix and parts are half the price from the USA.

The MX-8 is cool as, love ours. The first time we put it in I must of sat with a beer and watched it for and hour or so.

The issue with the damaged drive on one side is an easy fix. When mine failed and the whole unit was replaced under warrenty, my local pool shop advised that the issues are being caused by a large amount of water flow through the gearbox. Even though the flow rate was set as pet the flow device that came with it. Zodiac know of the issue and are selling a flow reducer to add to the attachment on the top of the MX-8's head. My local pool guy said zodiac are trying to sell them for about $20, but he took a heap off them and was giving them away for free whilst his stocks lasted
Cheers, Craig

Thanks for that info. I will ask the Zodiac Repair Shop when I pick mine up after repairs.

What type and style of pool do you happy MX8 owners have?
Never been game to buy a pool cleaner yet cos I hear first hand how good they are but.... and that's usually coupled to a downside. IE gets stuck on steps, tips itself upside down, trys to get out of the pool, gets tangled up in its hose, forever replacing parts, etc.
I want one that I can put in the pool and it does its job under the bubble and leaf blankets (during winter) when we are away for long periods without the aforesaid problems.
Simple, or is that asking too much?
I have a fibreglass pool 10m x 4m with two sets of steps, one curved and a recliner bed shaped recess built into the shallow end wall. Good to lay in with the esky at arms reach.
So, will an MX8 fit the bill?

It comes down to customer service every time. Same shop, two different owners and customer service which was polar opposites. Bad customer service can break a business. Good stuff mate  :cup:

our pool is kidney shaped with the steps up one end and half way around the shallow end.

Old kreepy krawly type unit used to get 'bogged' on the steps all the time. MX8 lives in the pool all year round with the cover on or off and has not got stuck or tangled in 3 years..........best pool cleaner I have owned
Cheers, Craig
