Who says?

;D ;D. Just me. But that's my opinion. Might as well take her to a hotel. About he same price as decent caravan parks, and you can have all that, without the effort of bringing it all yourself. But that's me.

We were at a few CP's over the holidays.   Both offered a fridge hire service.

At first I thought one of the sites packed up everything but the bar fridge - and left it on the site and drove off (I thought the pack up was too much of a strain on the marriage - had a blue and bolted forgetting the fridge! ) - only to see a sticker on it saying it belonged to the CP...

I was commenting to a guy at the second park how his full sized household fridge must have been a pita to bring - he informed me that for $50/wk it is delivered and picked up for him and it keeps plenty of  nice and cold for him and his... (kind of made sense at $4.50/bag of ice they wanted to charge at the CP).

Made my Waeco seem like I was playing house - but in reality he really was !!! I suppose if you have a powered site and you have the gear - why not - beats burning the toast 2 or 3 times before you remember to take it off the gas cooker when you have a toaster??

We've got friends who always camp in a CP. I always tell them we will take them "proper camping".

We camped in a CP for the first time in 3 years with friends (it was the same for them) apart from the convenience of a Playground and good bike riding area the Kids, we all preffered bush camping. Even the kids at one stage wanted to find some dirt to play in and trees to climb.

each to their own i always say, if we all liked doing the same stuff the same way it'd be a very boring world. if that's what they think camping is then good on them, i hope they are enjoying themselves.

We prefer bush camping but had to put the car in for repairs and the easiest toyota dealership to get the work done at was 5 hours away so we took the opportunity to stay at a CP for a few days (ended up extending cos they stuffed the booking of the car repairs) - the kids loved the open space as it was "off-season" and first thing they spotted was a pile of sand that the CP had from doing recent works so they happily spent alot of time there.

We do a bit of both (bush camp and CP). Bush camping is great and the family love it too having said that the missus and kids prefer there be a toilet and hot shot shower available. That doesn't mean it has to be 5 star just clean amenities. We are set up for free camping and don't require power for anything. The new customline will be set up the same although with batteries and solar. The times we have stayed in CP's with a powered site we have taken our coffee machine and toaster. We figure the power is there we may as well make the most of it. When free camping we cook toast on the gas stove and make coffee in a plunger. If you can adapt to your situation then you will always have a good time.

Shhhh!
lets keep free camping a secret, there are already enough of us out there, getting harder to find a secluded spot, let the masses continue to herd themselves into the confines of CPs.  ;D

As an avid surfer, sometimes the only option I've got is to plonk our kit in a caravan park; if I'm chasing waves that is. Over the years we've experienced quite a few scenarios within the confines of caravan parks. Some fantastic, others downright awful. Off season is the go, holidays can be a nightmare. In peak times they can be more akin to a refugee camp than a holiday park. Having seen the 240 volt brigade first hand, I can't see the problem. Its a holiday, simple as that. Bush camping isn't everyones cup of tea. Camping in large groups isn't everyones idea of fun either. Kids do tend to have a great time in holiday parks, some mums too. Hot and cold running water, domestic toilets, showers and power make life a bit easier for those less enthusiastic about roughing it. Each to their own I say.
