Our camper trailer in the making
« on: January 24, 2014, 04:08:46 PM »
Hi all

Once again we have been to Outback Campers and this time we have photos of OUR camper.  They are waiting on the axle to arrive before they can do anymore.  It's all so very real now.

The dream - to travel like a snail with my home behind me, seeing every inch of Australia.

Life is a gift and too short to waste.

The Tanami, in my opinion, which is a bit biased, ;D is probably the best designed and built soft floor camper on the market, not cheap, but there are is almost nothing to do to it in the way of mods, except a couple of extra lights  :cup: :cup:

and a diesel heater if you're a softy like me  ;D

Hey Xcavator.

Have you taken yours out yet?  How did it go?

The only thing I think they could add is a Tropical Roof.  We did speak to them about it and they said because of the size of the camper its a bit difficult.  We used to have a Sturt and would have loved something extra on the roof on hot days.

We are hoping to have ours early March.  Its getting closer.

Pathy is booked for electric brakes at the end of Feb.  We have brought extra lights but will get some more from Outback cos when we went to have a look it was pointed out to us the camper has velcro sewn into it over the kitchen, in the annexe and where the fold out is to put lights and they have them with the velcro on the back.

We have brought a big comfy mattress protector cos the mattress looks a bit iffy.  And Hubby has become an Ebay addict.

EXCITED MUCH!!!!!    ;D

Hi Vicandug, we've had ours for about 18 months now and haven't used it nearly as much as I'd hoped, but that is all about to change  >:D Couple of minor hiccups, we got water in the pole box, turns out it was creeping in by capillary action through the strut bolt holes, smear of silicone and it was ok,hose came off the water tap, clip not done up properly. I had to make up a wind shield for the stove from some sheet metal, cost about $10.00 and some shields for the burners from aluminium foil.
Best mod was installing a diesel powered heater, had a really wet cold night at Mallacoota, 4 of us sitting in the tent having nibbles and drinks without jumpers and coats on  :cup:
With a bit of practice you can have it set up for an over nighter in about 10 minutes, with the awning it takes another 10.
If you find the cover is a bit tight to pull down around the edges and do the press studs up get a $5.00 load binder strap ,pass that over the folded up tent, hook it on the mudguards and you can pull the canvas down quite a bit, makes it much easier to get the cover on  ;D

Thanks for that tip.  We never had an issue with the cover in the old camper.  Maybe it just needs to be worn in a bit.

We had an issue folding the Sturt we had but we brought it used and weren't ever shown properly how to do it.  This time we plan on leaving the awning attached so we don't have to zip it on and off all the time.

How did you go with the storage?
Have you got a hot water for showers?

So do we, you need to attach a couple of ropes to it to pull it over and hold it down

How did you go with the storage?
As Jimmy Coulson says "if you're using all the storage space you're taking too much" there is simply too much.

Have you got a hot water for showers?

In a billy on the gas or a 20ltr drum beside the fire and a $20 drop in the bucket, hand held shower.we did set up an instantaneous gas hws but it took up a lot of space, had to have a seperate gas bottle etc, worked brilliantly but the bucket is simpler, like me.

The other thing I tried recently that woks well, instead of using a tent pole to lift the awning and fold up the tent I bought a telescoping painters pole and a roller for $35.00 Cut the roller off at the 1st bend from the handle then screw the handle onto the pole, wella an adjustable lifting pole that is much thicker than a tent pole and easier to hold  :D

Hi all

Well, we went off to Outback again today.   I am sure they John must be just about sick of us.   Patient man he is.

Well, they have trialled a portable hot water/shower unit and we have added that to our camper.

The unit hooks onto the open door where the porta loo is.  There will be plumbing to our water tank and it will run off our existing gas bottle.

Anyway we couldn't get any pics as there wasn't anyone available to come I to the workshop with us, but John did tell us the axle has arrived and it's on wheels.   :D

Once again...... WE ARE VERY VERY EXCITED!!!!

 ;D
