Transfer pump-Diesel
« on: January 23, 2014, 06:02:35 AM »
G'day all,

as the heading indicates, I am considering buying a small 12 volt transfer pump for our trip to the cape later in the year, it would get a fair amount of use not only during the cape but also when we trip around the place.

The specs seem ok for what they are, and there priced from anywhere between $30 to $50 so not overly expensive should it chit itself.

Whilst im at it, has anyone put together a simple water transfer set up with a small 12 volt pump, I am also going to build a little set up and thought there maybe a few on the forum who have done this already and willing to share a few ideas.

Anyone with any experience your info would be appreciated.

Thanks

 :cheers:Swanny

G.day swanny, I have made myself a Tanami pump, it is not electric it is operated by compressed air, they are sold by ARB here in Mackay, none of the other 4x4 shops seem to stock them, cost is about $90 . they run on 5 lbs pressure so I use the little compressor that I have for my air bags, as I like making stuff myself I proceeded to make my own, the arb one has a relief valve which I didn't have so if I see the jerry can starting to swell I just turn it off for a little while, it only takes 3 or4 minutes to pump a can of fuel, you can buy them to fit metal or plastic cans, I have plastic, I carry my cans inside the 4by and don't have to remove them to refuel.
If you would like info on how to make one just ask I will do my best to explain.
Regards Woody

I like the idea of a Tanami pump as you already have the compressor so you dont need another piece of equipment.

Woody two do you get the smell of diesel in the cabin or are these smell less ?

G'day Alan Loy, the plastic cans seal very well, as an example when we had a petrol car we carried the cans in can holders out in the sun and they would never leak, having said that no there is no smell except when the can is open but that soon goesRegards Woody
