Best caravan park in Townsville
« on: January 19, 2014, 08:26:44 PM »
Gday All,

We are heading to Townsville for a 40th birthday early in June.(June long weekend).
Probably stay for 3 nights max and then head North to Cairns.

I'm after a good caravan park not to far out of town, if possible camper trailer friendly and not packed in like sardines.

We were going to fly up but have decided to make a holiday out of it over 4 or 5 weeks. ;D

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Glenn

We stayed at a Caravan Park in Townsville, it was on the cnr of the highway and charters towers rd, very average.
I found a nice CP at Rowes bay and is close to beach.
Rollingstone is another but it's probably too far out of town.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Angus

Sorry buddy,

But Townsville isn't known for its caravan parks.

Most of them are full of Centerlink employees.

There is a big 4 on the Northern Beaches, plenty of space, only a 15 minute run straight into town from it.  I live near it, never stayed at it, but a friend of mine did last year and said it was fine.

It's called the Big 4 woodlands Holiday park Townsville, Ph. (07) 4751 6955

We didn't mind the one at Rowes Bay a couple of years ago. We were there for an air show when the big dust storm came through. We could walk to the Strand without a problem.

As said before we do not have the nicest caravan parks.. But without a doubt the ones mentioned above are the best of the bunch Rowes Bay if you want to be near the beach and close to the Strand & "City". Or Big 4 at woodlands is just on the Northern side of town and is quite open and seems to have plenty of room.My parents stay there from time to time. Rolling stone beach caravan parks gets plenty of reviews but I have not personally been there. It is about 45kms north of Townsville though..

Good luck have a good trip and I hope you enjoy our town..

If you're ok with roadnoise and night train traffic Big 4 is ok.  We didn't mind the park, just not the location...but we also like it quiet!  The reason we stayed there is it was close to the wedding we attended.

Thanks for the replies.

The Rowes Bay park looks like it might be the way to go.
My mates 40th is at the strand somewhere so it's not far to get home.

Looking forward to heading North up to the cape :cup: :cup:

I don't know is Rowes Bay is the best but it's the only one I've stayed at.  The only down sides are, it's VERY popular and thus lots of people.

The biggest downside is they WON'T take bookings.  One needs to turn up on the day and hope there's a vacancy.   :'(

I have not tried to book yet, but they have a booking page on the website.

If they don't take bookings they can jam it. ???

Good luck, let us know how you get on.  Booking page "used to be" just for on-site cabins, not camping/caravan sites.
