Buy a bale if you can.
« on: January 18, 2014, 01:22:53 PM »
Saw a report on the TV this morning on how bad the draught is, particularly in Qld, but also in other states. 60% of Qld is now draught declared.  Cattle properties are really suffering, it is pretty bad. I knew it is dry out there, but did not realise how wide spread it is and how the farmers are suffering.  I just don’t know how farmers do it.   We are really spoilt where we are.  And yesterday I was complaining how fast the grass is growing and how much mowing and slashing I have been doing! (We have 61 acres.)
Any way there is a web site you can go to called ‘buy a bale’ for people to donate to help the farmers.  http://www.buyabale.com.au/  We just donated $30, I know it is not much in the grand scheme of things, but I am sure it will help.  Kevin

Neighbour is still dairying.  Spoke to him yesterday.  Whilst he is surviving (just) his main concern is for next year.  With this current drought, no crops have been planted for silage next year.  He is getting really concerned.

Also read a report that the supermarket shelves will be starting to feel the drought very soon with increased fresh food prices.  If you live in the concrete jungle and think this won't effect you, think again.

Yep FIL has sent a sh!teload of cattle to the feedlot. No water, no grass and too many to feed. Even though this costs him more atleast he is feeding then selling the cattle rather than watching them drop dead in a paddock. Its bloody hard out there.

Thanks Kevin for putting this up. Went and had a squizzy at their website and signed up for nesletters and just bought 6 bales and 15L of diesel, not much but hope it helps a little. Noticed on their website that out of the $630K in donations so far $100770 has been by corporate and $100000 has been by one company/charity, so that leaves $770 from the rest............. >:( >:( I wonder if the banks have donated any of their billions of dollars of profit to that $770...
